BSOD in Win 8.1 Playing Steam Portal 2

Hi guys,

I'm getting BSODs when playing Portal 2 on steam 30 mins - 2 hours into the game). I'm using windows 8.1 (upgraded from 8.0 key) and have fairly new hardwares installed recently. Outside of Portal 2 I have not encountered any other BSOD errors, including a 6+ hours session in Tomb Raider 2013 which may rule out overheating etc.

I can't recall the error ID on the BSOD screen because it was fuzzy. But this happened twice today and yesterday. All I could find in the eventviewer is Kernel-Power and BugCheck

Please follow the below steps, one step at a time :-

  1. Please remove the ATI Display Driver using this **TOOL** and install the latest driver from your System Manufacturer.
  2. If the problem is still not resolved then please remove the above highlighted ASUS Bloatware as they are known to cause problems. In some cases you would need to do a manual system wide search to find the driver and then rename it.
  3. Please remove Avira using this **TOOL** till the time we are troubleshooting.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.
