New G750JM DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE at random

I noticed http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-power-failure-randomly-new-asus-g750jm.html and decided I needed to come here and report my own error with my G750JM. It's only happened twice, but the second time sparked me to try and figure out whats causing the issue. I know, with it being brand new (2-3 weeks old) there is no reason for this.

Unfortunately, I have no new information like when it's happening or how to replicate the issue, but I do know that is both has happened after quitting from Star Wars: The Old Republic FOLLOWING an Nvidia driver update I ran yesterday morning. It has not happened before then.

On the thread I linked, I noticed an issue to fix it was to uninstall and re-install the Nvidia updates. I was looking into doing that, but had no idea how. I understand a reply will take time, and I will await one. I hope I provided the correct information.

I look forward to any and all help received.

The uninstall/reinstall thing is done several ways.

I suggest uninstalling the nVidia stuff through Control Panel, then checking in Device Manager to make sure. If it's found in Device Manager, uninstall it from there by right clicking on the device and selecting "Uninstall". If you get a check box asking if you want to remove the driver software, check it in order to remove it.

Others will recommend driver cleaning tools (I don't think that they're necessary, but in most cases they won't hurt).
Here's the one I see recommended the most: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...ls-ddu-gmp-tdr-manupulator-updated-08-10-14-/

Then download and install a fresh copy of the latest nVidia drivers.
For a laptop, get them from the PC manufacturer's website
For a desktop, get them from Drivers | GeForce

Here is the file you requested.

Wouldn't uninstalling the driver cause some issues? Is the sign that you found nothing a good thing?

It just happened. I'm replying to this thread following a DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE to cause the forced restart. Is there information I need to collect? Once again, it happened following quitting out of SW:TOR the video game.

Another negative, Nvidia was updating and it happened right in the middle.

UPDATE: While attempting to uninstall the Nvidia driver, it blue screened on me.

Typically we suggest replacing drivers because we suspect a corruption in the driver(s) that we're asking you to replace.
When you uninstall a video driver, Windows uses a generic Microsoft driver so that you can see your screen.

Since a crash happened while updating the nVidia drivers, that suggests that the problem is with your video card (either software or hardware). As many people have installed updated video drivers without problems, the most likely cause here is hardware.
Please run the video stress tests from this page of hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics (run all the tests, but start with the video tests).

Please collect the memory dumps and upload them with your next post. To do this, navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents. In some cases you'll have to copy it to your Desktop before you'll be able to zip them up.

If there are no minidumps (the Admin Event Log suggests that the system was unable to produce a minidump), then locate the C:\Windows\MEMORY.dmp file. Zip it up and upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link to it here. This file is replaced each time that a BSOD occurs, so you'll have to upload them after each time that it happens.

The Admin Event Log shows 1 bugcheck (BSOD/Dump File) and 3 EventID 41 errors.
The Log also shows that the system couldn't make a minidump out of the 1 MEMORY.dmp file that was captured
These may be signs of a hardware problem, so the diagnostics are needed to help narrow down the cause.

If this is a laptop, please blow out all the vents with canned air (DO NOT use a vacuum or an air compressor - it may cause damage to the system).
If this is a desktop, please open up the system (after unplugging it from the wall) and check to see that the video card is getting good airflow, that the video card cooler is not clogged with dirt/dust/hairballs, that the video card cooler's fan is running, that the video card is firmly seated in it's slot, and that any additional power connectors on the video card are firmly seated

I was able to uninstall my Nvidia Graphics Driver last night and re-install it as well. Hopefully this fixed the issue. Also, the second time I ran into the BLUE SCREEN, I hard shut down my computer, more than likely cutting it off from saving any data so I think that may be where a mess up comes from.

My computer is a laptop, I've occasionally used a compressed can to blow out the vents cause I use my laptop in an dusty environment, but I'll stop now.

The problem began Wednesday, a day after I updated my Nvidia Driver and existed only after I quit a game I had been playing for a few hours. I have to assume those are linked and it's the driver causing it. If it was hardware, wouldn't it be doing this every time I start a video game?

Also we're looking at Video 1 and Video 2 tests I need to primarily test out on the hardware diagnostics page you showed me?

It just happened, so the uninstall and reinstall did not fix it. It's me playing SW:TOR and quitting out of the game, took about ten minutes following for it to go blue screen and run the information collection for restart.

If by August 24, I do not have this fix, I will send it back to Amazon and get the laptop replaced. My return/replacement date ends on the 28th.

UPDATE: Also attached the memory log

UPDATE #2:

I system restored my computer to Sunday, before my Tuesday updates. It removed a windows update and the Graphics Driver update. Both are now pending and awaiting my approval to download.

I was on the video game for 30 minutes, quit and waited ten minutes. As of this post, no blue screen. Nothing. Hopefully, after I post this nothing. I believe I was on for about the same amount of time earlier today when it did it.

UPDATE #3

Played the game for one hour, quit, and waited ten minutes. Timer is going off as I type this. No blue screen. Both updates still pending. So it's something to do with either the windows update of the Graphics Driver update pending approval to download. Will wait for your opinion before taking any steps. I understand I can't avoid these updates forever.

UPDATE #4 (FINAL UPDATE)

Here's my last one. I was playing the game for several hours lat tonight, around 3-4 hours. I quit about ten minutes ago with no repercussions occurring via blue screen so its safe to say the system restore fixed the issue as I felt it would. This was truly my final test. I knew that if it passed this, then it was definitely something I updated on Tuesday, and my suspicion is the new driver from Nvidia I updated that day. Thoughts?

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't have to spend days trying to solve a problem with a new computer.
If you're able to get it replaced, go ahead and do so. It'll be a lot easier than spending time trying to fix this one.

Unfortunately, the uploads that you did are just shortcuts to the actual files (and they don't work for me because the actual file isn't on my system). Please copy the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory to your Desktop. Then highlight all of the minidumps, right click on them and select "Send to". Then select "Compressed (zipped) folder" This will leave a folder that ends in .zip in the copy of the Minidump folder on your Desktop. That's the one to upload with your next post.

My opinion is that there is a hardware problem with the video card.
Have you run the video diagnostics that I suggested?
Older versions of the 75/750 laptops did have video card problems - but I haven't seen any recently (my son had the video card replaced on his under warranty).

It's OK to use a compressed can of air to blow out the vents, I was referring to an air compressor (such as one used to inflate car tires) and they can cause damage.

Unfortunately, I believe the C:\Windows\Minidump are gone because of the system restore. This put my computer in a state to before the events happened.

I downloaded furmark, but am completely unaware of what to do with it. Can you run me through that please?

Also, if my games are running perfectly with this, how can it be hardware?

UPDATE #1

I ran the "Furmark" BURN-IN BENCHMARK 1920x1080 Burn In and it went all the way through without a problem it seems. (Problem being a crash I suppose).

UPDATE #2

The issue seems to be with Nvidia's drivers. I have scoured the internet and it seems I am not the only person running into this issue. Others who own a ROG laptop run into this issue and the only fix, so far, seems to be rolling back the driver to the one Asus provided. Which, in my case, did seem to work.

This looks as if this is a Nvidia issue and they are not going to fix it. What happens if I do not update a graphics driver? Is that bad for the system?

Install Furmark and click on the burn in test (or similar function) to run it.
Watch the graphs. What you're looking for is:
1) the temperature to stabilize at a certain level (preferably less than 90ºC) - let us know what level they stabilize at.
2) the furry donut to just keep on moving around without any video problems

If the temp get's too high (over about 95ºC) or the display starts doing weird/unexpected things (to include blacking out) - kill the program. If you have difficulty killing the program, then hold down the power button until the system shuts down.

First off, you have a limited window with most retailers to exchange the unit for another one. At my shop it's 2 weeks (although you can talk to a manager and get that extended sometimes). If it is hardware and you want a replacement system - you're running out of time.

After that, most shops will gladly perform hardware diagnostics and repairs under warranty - but that means that you'll be without the system while they diagnose and repair it.

There are many components to a video card, and one component can malfunction while the others still work.

As for the video drivers - most laptops have dual video cards, and the manufacturer has made modifications to the drivers in order to make both video cards work well together. Always use the drivers from the PC manufacturer if it's a laptop. My system has a non-functioning video card because I used the AMD and Intel video drivers from their sites - not from the Samsung site's modded drivers.

Hello, I just found this thread, myself having the exact same problem - Asus G750JM with NVidia 860GTX videocard and geting the same driver_power_state_failure BSOD, and apparently in the same circumstances - a little after exiting Star Wars the Old Republic if the laptop is left active or in the process of restarting / shutting down if such process is initiated. This type of error apparently only occurs with the video card being used, in normal windows operation i never encountered the error (norma computer use / restarting / shutting down). This makes a pretty strong argument for the Nvidia driver to blame. Since this thread is a few months old, have you found a solution to the problem?

Quick edit: the temperature is never above 60 degrees celsius for any system component (processor, gpu, etc).
