BSOD NMI_HARDWARE_FAILURE when playing games, or videos

This problem seems to happen when I play videos, or games. it doesn't happen every time, but it has happened 4 times in the last week, and started after resolving another BSOD issue, which was apparently driver related.

As this seems to happen with games, and videos, I'm thinking it may be either the video card, or the sound card. What I'm hoping is that this blue screen information can possibly help in determining which piece of hardware is causing these crashes.

Troubleshooting steps taken, and their results:

ran chkdsk c: /r - No problems were found
ran sfc /scannow - 1 problem was found, and corrected. Did not resolve issue
Windows Memory Diagnostics with extended test, cache setting default, and 2 passes - No problems were found
lowered ambient room temperature by 10 degrees F (in case it was an overheating issue) - no change, so it's not overheating.
Moved, and removed USB devices - No change
Full power reset - No change

Attached is the crash information as outlined in the BSOD Posting instructions.

Note: I am quite computer literate. I do all my own work on my computers, so don't be shy with technical information. If I don't understand something, I will surely ask. :)

It certainly appears to be audio-related, but there isn't a specific driver mentioned. Can you check for both audio driver and Windows Updates to see if a newer driver is available?

Thank you for your timely reply.

The installed driver is the latest version for the audio card that is available anywhere that I can find. In fact, the version from Windows update is newer than the one that is available on the Creative website. All windows updates (including drivers) have been installed.

Since posting this thread, I've taken a few more troubleshooting steps. I shut down the computer, pulled all the cards, and the RAM, blew everything out with a can of compressed air. After doing this, I put everything back together, and turned it on. There was a lot of dust inside the case, and on various cards. I'm using the system as normal to see if the blue screens continue.

OK. If you get another BSOD, upload the new zip file and we can have a look.

Thank you for your assistance. The system had several more blue screen halts. In attempt to troubleshoot the problem, I moved the sound card to a different PCI slot, and it halted the system the first time it played any sounds at all.

This problem was resolved by completely removing the sound card, and switching to HDMI audio. Turns out the sound card has finally given up the ghost. Guess I'll have to get a new one, when I can afford it.
