My computer was in standby last night and when I woke up it was displaying this. So it turned itself on just to crash. Very microsoft-like.

But this started last night before that as well. I left my computer for a few minutes to watch TV and when I came back it showed this BSoD. Restarted, did it on boot again. Restarted once more, did it again. Restarted another time, it finally worked.

What's causing this? And is it a coincidence that it's only happening when I'm not using it, or is that part of the problem?

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Yes, I'm sure.

Connectify is using your hardware in a new way that is causing the crashes, then.

Update the driver as shown and you'll be good to go.

Then there are 3 choices basically:

1) Only use Windows 7.

2) Use 8 too, but uninstall Connectify so it doesn't trigger the modem fault.

3) Complain to the company to make a new driver that will not crash.

----------

Have you tried a Windows Update to see if it gives you a new driver at all?

Anyhow, you might be able to download another similar model driver from them from like 2011 or 2012. Take the x64 .sys file and copy/paste it over the one at C:\Windows\System32\drivers then reboot. Just backup the original file first.

Might work. Might not.

Connectify, I believe is not necessary - all the functions are built in to Windows since 7.

Windows 7 as an wi-fi access point » IT Geek Diary

It involves a couple of long commands, and to set up internet connection sharing on your wireless adapter, and that's all.

Windows restarts automatically when starting after shutdown.

Hi,

My system is restarting automatically whenever it reaches the windows splash screen and it happens if I first shutdown my computer and then start it. There's no problem in direct restarting the system. But the problem occurs only when i start the system after shutting it down. I have uploaded the .dmp files in zip file as per your guidelines. Please help me.

System configuration:
Windows 8 Consumer Preview-32 bit
