Solved New PC build. Win 8 install. BSOD due to WLAN device?

First I just want to say thanks. You guys gave me a lot of help on Win 7 when I was having BSODs. This community is a good one, that's for sure.

I keep getting BSODs after building a new PC and installing Win 8. The error I am getting from my Intel event log says: 2000 Error communicating with WLAN device.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WLAN drivers but am not having any luck. I have found newer driver versions but none of the driver installs take now. Seems like the driver that was installed is now corrupt, or parts of it are lingering. When I uninstall the device and driver from Windows (cause I don't need it), Windows finds it when auto scanning for hardware and then I get another BSOD.

The ethernet device that seems to be having the issue is a Killer e2200 built into my MSi Gaming 5 Motherboard.

Log events attached. I'd be glad to attach anything else that might help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please perform the below steps :-
1. It appears you have got the Killer Network Ethernet, your driver is a bit old and has BSOD issues with Windows. Please follow this **GUIDE** and make sure you do exactly it says and see if the problem still appears or not.

2. Please remove MSI Afterburner (Or MSI Live Update 5) as this driver is also known for causing BSOD with Windows Systems.

3. Remove CoreTemp as it includes the WinRing libraries which are known to cause BSOD's.

4. Please update the rest of the drivers.

5. In case you are overclocking, please reset back to STOCK settings.

I am targeting the Network drivers because it seems most of the BSOD's occured during Network Activity. Btw, you got so many BSOD known drivers :p

In case of further problem, please do not hesitate to post back ^_^ and yea, thanks for the kind words :)

Thanks so much for your help BlueElvis.

I just wanted to give you an update as to what has happened since I posted last night. I had been reading about all of the trouble with the Killer e2200, so I disabled it in the BIOS to try to see if that stopped the blue screens. It has slowed them down, considerably. I was getting BSODs just about every hour or so. Since I disabled the network adapter, I have only gotten one.

When I received that blue screen it was for "Memory Management", fwiw.

So, I don't know if I have more than one problem here. I am attaching another grab of the event logs, dumps etc. The last event, or two events occurred with the Killer Ethernet adapter disabled in the BIOS.

Many thanks. I will begin working on the suggestions you gave me.

I do have a question though. The first thing it says to do is cancel the Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service. Since I have the Killer card disable, that service isn't running. Should I enable it in the BIOS?

Hi Jamie,

I think the service will still run even if the device is disabled in the BIOS but I am not sure on this one. Enable the device and then follow the Guide. In case of further problems, attach me the freshly generated SF Diagnostic ZIP file but make sure you try out the given suggestions :)

Ok, thanks! Will do. Updating drivers now.

Also, I cannot find the MSi Afterburner program or the MSi Live Update. Both were on my motherboard install disk, but I didn't install either of them and they aren't showing up under "Programs and Features".

I'd gladly delete them but I cannot find them on my system. Is there another way to find them?

Hi Jamie,

There is the presence of "NTIOLib_X64.sys" in the dump files which indicate that the software is present on the machine. If you are sure that there is nothing like that then search for this driver and rename it to "NTIOLIB_X64-bak.sys" . Furthermore, you have got any MSI Software for managing the system? Uninstall that as well.

Anyways, I am now off for some DOTA 2 action and sleep, keep me updated.

Good night!

Ahhhhh.....I see why you're seeing that. I have my "drivers and utilities" dvd in the D drive.

Ignore anything in the D drive. That's my dvd drive. I guess I should have taken that out before creating the dump.

I'll keep you posted on what happens.

The dump does not contain those drivers bro :p

The drivers I have mentioned were present on the system and running while the Blue Screen appeared so it is not that :p

By doing a search of the entire computer in Windows Explorer, I cannot find that file. I did delete MSi Turbo Boost and MSi Command Center, so maybe it was installed with those two utilities.

If there's another way to find that file, let me know.

Yups, that should have removed the driver. So, are you still getting Blue Screens?

Well,
Here's an update. BSODs have decreased dramatically. I was getting them once an hour.

All of the drivers I originally had installed were from MSi's motherboard utilities disk. After speaking with you I deleted all of MSi's utilities, updated all of the drivers from MSi's webpage. All of the drivers on the disk that came with the MoBo were outdated by quite a few versions. So all of the Intel chipset, Intel Smart Connect, Intel Management Engine, Realtek, and a few other drivers were updated to the most recent versions. Since doing that I've had only one BSOD.

That BSOD occurred right after installing software for my mouse. It happened during the shutdown procedure to restart the computer after the install, and it happened almost exactly at the same time as the computer would have shut off to restart anyway. In fact, it happened so late into a shutdown that the Intel Smart Connect application had been shutdown as part of the shutdown process, so it did not even record that an event occurred. I just thought it might help to be very specific.

I'm including another dump grab. But there's definite progress here. Only one BSOD since yesterday and it seemed to be very different then the others. So many thanks!

Hi JamieTwelve ^_^,

It is good to hear that the BSOD's have decreased dramatically. I look forward to completely solving it ^_^. Below is an analysis of the dump file :-

The dump file does not provide with much information except the fact the running process at which the BSOD occurred which is the "NVSTREAMSVC.exe" which is the NVIDIA Streaming Service which lets you to stream to other devices. It is not required in everyday use unless you have an NVIDIA Shield and want to stream to it, please follow the below steps :-

  1. Press "Start (Windows) button + R" to open the RUN prompt.
  2. Type in "Services.msc".
  3. Services Window would now open.
  4. Once it is open, search for the NVIDIA Streaming Service (NvStreamKS or NvStreamSvc).
  5. Once you find it, right click on it and click on the Properties.
  6. Under the Startup Type Dropdown options, select the "Disabled" option and click on "OK".
  7. Restart your system.

Once you disable the Service, check if you are still getting BSOD's or not. In case of any further problems, do not hesitate to post back and I would be glad to help you out ^_^.

Btw, are you experiencing any slowdowns or sluggish performance at any point?

Nope...PC is blazing fast with the new build. I think once the BSODs are corrected, it should be a very fast (and hopefully stable) device. I'll make the changes you suggested and see how it goes.

But thanks to your advice we are much closer to "solved". I'll post back in the next day or two with an update.

Well BlueElvis. no BSODs since Saturday night! When I first posted, I had just built the rig and had not been able to enjoy it at all. So now that it's not only purchased, built and running, it's running great, stable and extremely fast!

Soooo many thanks for your help. You guys here at sevenforums and eightforums are really good people. Thanks so much for the help. Marked as solved, and if problems pop back up I know where to turn for help.
