Hi, thank you. glad to be the newest member here. I have an Aspire S3 laptop Windpows 8 to 8.1 - that now has a BCD error blue screen upon start up that is error OXCOOOO0D - boot configuration data Recovery

Blue screen reads:

Your PC needs to be repaired.
The BCD is missing some required info.
File:\BCD
you'll need to use recovery tools...

I don't have an install/repair cd/dvd, and I don't have my product key - since its on the BIOS and is unretrievable. I want to save ALL my files so, please, if someone can help, thak you! All I tried so far is to get into the BOOT by pressing F2 and switched it from UEFI to Legacy only it asks for BOOT disk...

Does the system have a CD/DVD drive?
Do you have a USB drive you can use (it'll be wiped clean of data)?
I'm trying to figure out:
- what you can use to test your hard drive
- what you can use to boot to a "live" OS (one that works in memory and not from your hard drive)
- what you can use to copy your data to (using the "live" OS)

Additionally, we can try a few things to repair the BCD/test the hard drive/reinstall Windows. But the most important thing here (IMO) is to save your files, then we can attempt to fix the BSOD issues.

It is going to take booting with the USB and doing some BCD edit/repair actions with command screen. Has been a few days since you posted. I would PM usasma, he is the person to help you. Far more knowledgeable and experienced than many of us lurking here.

Follow these steps on another Win8.1 system to make a recovery drive on the USB: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5132-recovery-drive-create-usb-flash-drive-windows-8-a.html
Then try and recover your system.

BTW - no need to copy the recovery partition, as you wont' be able to use it with your PC (and this'll save a lot of time when making the drive.

If you don't have access to an 8.1 system, then you'll have to figure out how to download a copy of 8.1 (you won't have to activate it) and use the Win7 DVD to USB tool to make an installation drive (which will also have the repair stuff on it): http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2227-create-bootable-usb-dvd-windows-8-iso.html

I don't know if this'll work with the Enterprise trial version of Win8.1 - but it's worth a try since you won't have to pay for the ISO file
