computer won't start up properly after BSOD

Last night my laptop (lenovo z400 ideapad, running windows 8 - i never updated to 8.1) went to a blue screen with a "kernel data inpage error" message. Tried to boot it back up, but once i entered my password and logged in, the screen looked wrong. The windows homepage had no apps and the background pattern was not the one i normally had. I couldn't click on anything, so i shut it back down and went to sleep. This morning, i turned it back on, and this time it looked normal when i logged in. However, after about a minute, it froze and would not unfreeze. Thats where i am now. I can open the computer in safe mode and it works fine, and through that i can access the event viewer and command prompt, etc. I did a disc repair, no luck, and a system restore failed. Like i said, computer only works in safe mode, so i dont know if I'll be able to do the right procedure to upload the dump file from the BSOD, but i can try. Lots of interesting things in the event viewer. I'm on my phone but i can sample them later. So ... what should i do?

Okay, so I'm back on my computer now, checking out the event log.

DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service ShellHWDetection with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:
{DD522ACC-F821-461A-A407-50B198B896DC}
I have a LOT of errors that look like this - most of them say Shell HWDetection, some have other services there (like BITS, Bluetooth Device Manager, or McNaiAnn), and sometimes the code afterwards in the {} brackets changes, but this general message is in there a lot of times. (Event ID 10005, if it matters)

There are also a lot of these:
The IO operation at logical block address 14526b87 for Disk 1 was retried.
again, different things for the logical block address, but big strings of these error codes.

Dozens of these as well:
The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume5) requires an Online Scan. An Online Scan will automatically run as part of the next scheduled maintenance task. Alternatively you may run "CHKDSK /SCAN" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:> -SCAN" locally or remotely via PowerShell.

(these are in reverse chronological order, with the last one being the BSOD, obviously. also, like i said, a lot of these are repeated multiple times or with slight variations. hundreds of error reports just since the crash)

Okay, so going further back, I had never had most of these errors (the DCOM error, the logical block error, or the dependency service error) until 8:22 yesterday evening.
Then this happened:

LiveComm (5380) C:\Users\taite_000\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\LiveComm\05ceda4886be081e\120712-0049\: A request to write to the file "C:\Users\taite_000\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\LiveComm\05ceda4886be081e\120712-0049\DBStore\LogFiles\edb.log" at offset 217088 (0x0000000000035000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (4692 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

immediately followed by

Failed to create restore point (Process = C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs; Description = Windows Update; Error = 0x81000101).

a couple minutes later, this happens

Scoping unsuccessful for shadowcopy \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy5 with error 0x80070057.

and then the disk errors start (the io operation block ones) and continue until the crash, and up until now. almost half of all the messages in my event viewer have happened in the last 24 hours.

Please couldyou post your dumpfiles according to these instructions here http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/10685-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html .
Please use option one and use Grab all.

But this looks like hardware related problem, most probably your hardisk(s)

Start with checkdisk
Pleaserun the Checkdisk on your system tutorial here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6221-chkdsk-check-drive-errors-windows-8-a.html
You can get ahead start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

also, i've run the chkdsk scan several times already. i did it again just for the hell of it, but it didn't make any difference.

edit: i ran a read only chkdsk scan via the command prompt, so i could see what it says, and it told me "windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. no further action is required"

Edited again: ran another chkdsk including the /r parameter, and now its stuck at 27% which apparently happens to a lot of people. Im letting it go for now
