    SCHANNEL Error 36888

I have been seeing several SChannel Error 36888 in my system event viewer so I decided to try an experiment. I cleared the System Event log and went to the Windows Store and installed a new program. Once the new program was installed, I checked the System Event log and there were 8 new SChannel Event ID: 36888 errors there. Anybody have any idea why I am getting those errors? Is there anything I can do to correct the problem?

Here is the text of the error:

"A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 70. The Windows SChannel error state is 105."

Any help or enlightenment is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Walt

That might be true in some cases. But in my case, here is what I just tried. I uninstalled Office 2010 from this test machine. I restarted the machine. I cleared the System Event log. Next, I went to the Windows Store and installed a new program. Once the new program was installed I looked in the System Event log and there were 6 NEW SCnannel errors of Event ID:36888 just like my original post. So in my case your theory is not true. That link you refered to was from a Windows 7 Forum not a Windows 8 forum.

    Thanks for your concern.

It was closest I could find on short notice.

I would search for it on MS Answers and Technet.

I'm not sure I would get any help from those places since my problem is occurring on a Windows 8 machine and Windows 8 is not released. That is why I asked in a Windows 8 forum. I thought maybe someone else may have this problem while using Windows 8. It isn't a big deal since it doesn't appear to hurt anything. I just hate seeing errors in the event log.

I get that same error and found that it is associated with TLS protocol which is used for HTTPS encryption and Error code 70 means it was a bad protocol and the connection was probably terminated. I have not been able to see what is causing it, but I am sure MS will get it straight. I did give MS feedback on the problem.

Thanks for the answer but I can't think of anything I was doing at the time I got the errors that would have been using HTTPS encryption.

Today Windows 8 installed 2 Updates. I checked the event log after Windows Update finished and there were 10 more SChannel error 36888 in the log and the time stamps coincided with the Windows Updates. Hmmmm...
