I have a clients Laptop (Asus X550C) running Windows 8 and the first error I had was 0xc0000034, having a look around I tried some fixes but none worked, eventually I was left with the following error: 0xc0000001. As of now I am stuck here, I have a backup of the main files the client needs but do not want to reformat as I do not have their product key (It is not listed on the laptop and I cannot boot into the OS to run a key extractor).

Here is my documentation of the steps I followed:

I understand that this is a very important problem for you and that you'd like it solved as soon as is possible. But there are other circumstances that you may not be aware of. Please read this pinned topic about waiting for a response: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/48165-have-you-been-waiting-response.html

Try turning Secure Boot off (or, if it's off, try turning it on). This should be separate from the CSM setting.

I'm going to try to restore an Win8Pro HP today with a retail copy of Win8Pro (it had a failed HDD). I suspect that it'll install w/o problems - but want to be sure before recommending the same to you.

EDIT: As I recall, the product key is encrypted in the UEFI (on systems that came w/Win8 or 8.1 installed by the OEM). When installing Win8 it'll look in the UEFI and decrypt it

I successfully installed Win8Pro on an HP laptop that came w/Win8Pro - and I used a DVD of a full retail copy of Win8Pro
I verified activation using this article: How to Confirm that the Windows 8 System is Activated Successfully
At no time was I asked for the product key (the system was connected to the network when I started).
