BSOD on new build Win8.1, ASUS Rampage IV Extreme

Hi
I've recently completed a PC build:

ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard
Intel i7 4930k CPU
64GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD
Samsung 840EVO 500GB SSD (boot drive)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX760
PSU: Corsair AX860
Windows 8.1

Machine started shutting down unexpectedly, and refusing to wake from sleep a few days after being built.

A few days later and the problem has got worse now - BSOD with various errors, such as MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE, and others. Oddly, desktop search has also stopped working.

I have updated the drivers and the BIOS, but this doesn't seem to have had any effect.

I'd be very grateful for any assistance anyone is able to offer! SF Debug Tool output attached.

Thanks
Paul

UPDATE: Left the PC running overnight in safe mode. This morning it was showing the login screen - presumably had suffered a BSOD during the night in safe mode...

Different errors may be a sign of a hardware problem. Please start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Only 33 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 60 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available.

This device is disabled in Device Manager. Is this deliberate? If so, why?
Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows x64 ROOT\NET\0000 This device is disabled.
Please either uninstall the Cisco stuff - or enable it and update it (feel free to disable it again AFTER updating it). The drivers for this device date from 2009 - well before Win8 came out!

Out of 9 memory dumps there were 5 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers) - and older systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

In your case, they're mostly errors with memory - but we don't know if it's the videoRAM, the system RAM itself, the CPU cache, or even the hard drive (the pagefile is where the virtual memory is). Please run all of the hardware diagnostics to help isolate the problem.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Many thanks for your help. A combination of this plus other research has led me to what I am 99% sure is the culprit... I'm using Corsair Vengeance RAM with an X79 chipset motherboard, a marriage made in hell according to what I've read. The vendor of the RAM has kindly agreed to a refund, and I'm now looking at replacing it with G.Skill Ripjaws Z memory which is fully X79 compliant. Will update again here once it's installed!

Hello pparsons,

I've got a huge amount of x79 machines, i wouldn't recommend G.Skill to be honest.

Inless your planning on running some insane memory overclocking, Personally i have a collection of around 600 - 700GB of CorSair Vengeance memory all 2133mhz.

I wouldn't push the chipset any higher than that value if your planning on overclocking anything else.

I would however recommend that

Corsair Dominator or Kingston HyperX is your best bet.

Out of over 1TB of memory both included only around 2 - 3 4GB modules had any form of issue.

I would also recommend finding the correct culprit before going ahead is better than flinging more cash at components.

In the X79 world Memory and CPU have a love / hate relationship have you tried removing every RAM module from the machine leaving only one and ensure that XMP is DISABLED.

Then attempt to run this again, if the test still results in a BSOD then remove that one module and try another one. Perform the same test again.

ASUS Rampage series for me at least no matter what has always worked with Corsair Vengeance without any real issues. Only when the actual ram module has failed.

In this case if you perform the test above you will quickly find out that it's not the RAM however a specific ram module that has failed.

If the test fails twice with two separated modules i doubt it's the ram.

Let me know if i can help any further.

Many thanks for the feedback. In fact, I did try starting the PC with just two sticks of the Vengeance RAM installed before returning them, and it ran for 24 hours without error - so the problem seems RAM-related. Will post the outcome when the new memory arrives. Thanks again.

Ripjaws Z RAM kit has now been installed for a week, and all's still working fine. Thanks again for all the advice that helped get to the bottom of this!
