BSOD WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR hal.dll+37203 ntoskrnl.exe

I have been getting these inexplicable BSODs WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (Windows 8.1) for a while now. They happen randomly even if I'm just browsing the web to playing games. I have good cooling so my temps even while gaming never go beyond 45-50.

It is always the following: hal.dll+37203 and ntoskrnl.exe+1c0825

I have ran tests like IntelBurnTest, Prime95, memtest86+, and others to try to pinpoint it myself, but nothing happens on a consistent basis. I thought it was my RAM before, but after swapping with other sticks, same thing happens.

I have included the zip file with the necessary files so I hope that helps. This has been going on a for a while now so I would like to get this finally fixed, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks. :D

Furthermore, the issue seems to occur during some kind of activity related to the Video or the DirectX. You only seem to have 55 hotfixes installed. Please fetch them from the Windows Update.

Please follow these steps in case the problem is still not resolved :-
1. Update your graphics driver to the latest version. If you have the latest version then please try reverting back a few versions to see if the problem occurs only with the latest version?
2. Could you please see if the problem still persists if you remove your graphics card from the PCI slot and use the default integrated port for display?
3. If you have got more than one type of outputs on your graphics card, please try swapping the ports to check whether the problem exists only in one port?
4. There might be dust related issues as well, so if you could, please clean your system.

I would be glad to assist you further but in case the issue is resolved, please mark this as solved and post here what worked for you ^_^

So what exactly is dxgmms1.sys?

  1. I have the latest stable AMD Catalyst build on their site which is 14.4, but have been experiencing this problem for quite some patches back I think, so I'm not sure what build is safe to use. Should I try the new beta version?
  2. I'll try the integrated port as you suggested to see if anything happens
  3. Yup, I'll try this out too.
  4. System is pretty clean both physically and internally - the problem persists through reformatting also.
  5. This might sound like a dumb question but should I be installing the Optional updates in Windows Updates? Half of them don't seem applicable for example, "Camera Codec Pack" when I don't even have one, etc. It just seems like bloat and might cause problems down the road. You mentioned only 55 hotfixes, but when I open Windows Update, it says there are no Important updates available, just the Optional ones like I mentioned earlier.

The driver specified is this one according to the driver database - Driver Reference Table - dxgmms1.sys

You can try out the latest beta version as well.
Please try that out first before proceeding further so that reason could be eliminated. Optional updates are updates which are specific to your setup/PC specs.

The problem persists even though after reformatting means that there is a possible case of error with the hardware. Since, you have already stress tested your CPU and RAM, I would think that the fault in them would have a very low chance. So, hence I think that the graphics might be the suspect here.

Please use this tool to Uninstall/Clean the AMD Catalyst driver from your system :- AMD Clean Uninstall Utility

By the way, did this problem used to occur in the previous setup of Windows as well?

Your system might appear sparkling but there might be dust particles inside the slots, so try removing the cards/RAM/CPU from the slots, blow air and then replace them.

Please note that the removal and replacing the CPU is a very delicate process so please exercise caution ^_^.
