Random BSODS when using Fast boot and dynamictick enabled

Hi, After installing Windows 8.1 I was getting lots of random BSOD's on startup and Event 41 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting first....' in Event Viewer. I was able to fix this by disabling Fast Boot AND disabling dynamictick. I use a Corsair GT240 SSD as my boot drive with 2 x 1tb Velociraptors in RAID0 as my data drives. I know people have had this issue, I just wondered why it would affect my machine in particular and what causes the issue and if there is a work around other than disabling these features? Is it because I am using RAID0 or a SSD as my boot? Is it perhaps the i7 3820 CPU itself? Any thoughts? System: Sabertooth X79, i7 3820 @ 4.3ghz, 1 x Corsair GT240, 2 x 1tb Velociraptors, ASUS GTX780 OC, 16gb 4x4gb Ripjaw @ 2100mhz

No memory dumps in the uploaded reports. Please:
Upload Dump Files:
NOTE: If using a disk cleaning utility, please stop using it while we are troubleshooting your issues.
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.
Upload that .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service. Then post the link to it in your topic so that we can download it.

Also, search your entire hard drive for files ending in .dmp, .mdmp, and .hdmp. Zip up any that you find and upload them with your next post.

Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDumpMore info on dump file options here: Overview of memory dump file options for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2

There may be BSOD issues in the WER section of MSINFO32, but there's no info (that I can use) there.

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized. i5 and i7 processors can be "auto-overclocked" by using Intel's TurboBoost feature. If so, it's safe to disregard this caution.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

EventID 41's are Windows saying it doesn't know why it was shut down. It could be:
- you held the power button down to shut the system off
- a hardware error (to include overheating
- a crash (such as a BSOD) - which would be seen in Event Viewer along with the Event ID 41 error

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Think I have got to the bottom of the issue, I just disabled my HT Omega Claro Soundcard, no more blue screens.........not sure why it would produce an 'IRQ not less or equal' BSOD though.......

As it wasn't producing memory dumps, the most likely cause is a hardware problem.
But, an IRQL not less or equal error is usually due to a driver - so it could also be a compatibility issue, or even a driver issue (and that would mean a different reason for not getting a memory dump when it crashes).

'Random' BSOD always on startup IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Hi,

I call to all the powers that be that someone out there can help me with this 'old friend' of a BSOD. I have been tearing my hair out over this one for sometime now. Randomly, on startup I will get an 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, bug check 0x000000a'. It occurs ALWAYS on startup and at no other time. It happened with Windows 7 and now it is occurring or me on Windows 8.1. Here is where it gets weirder. I initially posted on this forum on another thread that I had got to the problem when I removed my old soundcard and the issue stopped. I purchased a new soundcard (different model/make/PCI slot type) and upon installing the new drivers the issue returned. It started to immediately start BSOD'ing on the 'PC needs to restart' prompts after installing the new drivers. Its almost as though the PC is 'upset' by changes made to the startup, i.e. new drivers installed, or perhaps the 'length' of startup by increasing number of drivers????? I repeat the issue ONLY occurs randomly on startup and seems to get more upset when changes are made to the startup by the installation of new drivers. (new drivers seem to cause BSOD in rapid succession) How bizarre is this? Here is the loooong length of trouble shooting that I have done over the year or so I have had this bizarre problem:

1. Replaced Motherboard
2. Replaced SSD system drive (with the same model I might add)
3. Replaced memory (IRQ BSOD's are normally associated with memory)
4. Replaced soundcard
5. Replaced power suply
6. Reinstalled Windows (many many times) both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
7. Running computer at stock settings (not O/C)\
8. Running different SATA ports for drives
9. Updated motherboard BIOS.
10. Numerous BIOS tweaks, voltage increases
11. Many other things I have probably forgotten.

I am kind of starting to suspect some kind of read/write issue of the drives rather than memory but I have replaced my Corsair 240gb SSD drive several times (with the same model), and replaced the motherboard (with the same model - Asus Sabertooth X79), tried different SATA ports, everything. I have been tearing my hair out over this issue, since switching from my old x58 board to a Asus Sabertooth X79/i7 3820 combo and I am starting to despair. I have pretty much replaced everything and built a new computer. Please please if anyone can help I would be so grateful!

I only have two final conclusions:

1. A faulty processor (only because its the only thing I have not replaced) - I kind of doubt this though as the issue only occurs on startup???
2. Should I try a new brand of SSD, perhaps my board just doesnt like Corsair GT240?

System: Sabertooth X79, i7 3820, 1 x Corsair GT240 SSD (system - RAID0 passthru), 2x1TB Velociraptors (data - RAID0), 16gb Ripjaw @ 2100mhz ASUS GTX780 OC, Enermax Evogalaxy 1250w supply.

Help!!!!!!

I attach a screenshot of my blue screen viewer results....

Sorry for not responding sooner - but I don't think I got the notification email.

Test the processor with Prime95 and the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool. Links to both tests are at Hardware Diagnostics

You can try another SSD, but the only reason for this (IMO) is if the Corsair SSD isn't compatible with your system. But, you'd find references to this when searching the web for solutions to this and I didn't find any when I searched.

Please zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post.

In most cases IRQL errors are due to driver issues. IRQL errors due to hardware (memory) problems are much, much less common.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: http:/www.carrona.org/verifier.html
Let the system crash several time (make sure that you check C:\Windows\Minidump to ensure that memory dumps have been captured while Driver Verifier was running).
