Repeated BSOD for Critical_Process_Died and KernalPage

Hi,

I've had my laptop about 8 months. It's a Toshiba Satellite S55-A5257, Intel I7, 8GB Ram.

It's occasionally crashed with a Kernal_Data_Page_error, however, recently it frequently crashes with a Critical_Process_Died Error (can happen multiple times in an hour).

I've tried two full system refreshes. Both of them seemed to temporarily solve the problem, but it started a week or two later again.

I've attached the Dump files.

Please help,
Thanks,
Z

Is there any particular reason that you haven't updated to Win8.1 (it's free). I ask in case you had troubles with it. DO NOT install it now - wait until we've stabilized the system.

Only 56 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 160 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Memory dumps are suggestive of an error in the disk hardware. Please run these free hardware diagnostics (starting with the hard drive tests): Hardware Diagnostics
If having difficulties running the bootable tests, try running Seagate SeaTools for Windows (from within Windows).

If you haven't made recovery media yet, now is the time to try (before the hard drive dies). Otherwise you'll have to purchase it from Toshiba (link here: Order Recovery Discs (USA) )

I installed the Windows updates, I did have them and 8.1, but I ran a System Refresh and lost them (didn't solve the problem).

I have tried the Hardware tests, but when I boot from the CD's nothing happens. I hear them running but then Windows appears to start normally. What am I missing?

Thanks,

Zaffro

There are sometimes problems with booting from CD's on UEFI systems. Changing things around is a pain - so try:
- Seagate SeaTools for Windows (run it while you're in Windows)
- Prime95 (for memory) - run the Blend test (run it while you're in Windows).

Then move on to the rest of the diagnostics.

Alright I ran Seagate's Basic Tests, it passed them all. I also ran Prime95 for 8 hours with no issues. I tried an independent malware test (nothing). I just ran the Video Stress Test for an hour and had no problems there either.

Any ideas for other tests/issues to check?

Thanks for your help.

Did you run the Seagate Long/Extended test?

Try the Hitachi WinDFT: Downloads | HGST Storage
I have found the memory dumps to be very accurate when pointing to a hard drive error - so I wonder if the Seatools isn't finding a problem that does exist.

Yes I ran the Long Test. I'll try the Hitachi Test. The issue has progressively got worse. The computer is nearly unusable at this point and now crashes every ~10-20 minutes, and often doesn't even make it past startup (which was not a problem before).

Resource monitor shows that disk usage spikes to 100% before it crashes.

Anyway I'll try the Hitachi Test and let you know.
Would resetting the PC or cleaning the hard drive do anything?

Thanks.

A reset would help to rule out Windows problems - and, if the BSOD's continue after the reset, it would help to confirm a hardware problem.

Reset didn't solve it. It's still under warranty so I called Toshiba to send it back to them, since it appears to be hardware related.

Thanks for all your help,
Z
