Asus Laptop BSOD When Playing League of Legends

I have this laptop: Amazon.com : ASUS A55A-AH51-WT 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (White) : Laptop Computers : Computers & Accessories, with additional 4gb Kingston ram aftermarket.

I am getting BSOD crashes whenever I play video games, like league of legends. They happen randomly and with seemingly no direct cause.

Windows has given me solutions to update my graphics card drivers, but whenever I "update" it gives me the same one I have and continuously says to update the driver.

I have tried solutions online, and including updating to the generic Intel Iris graphics drivers, but it still crashes. Attached are the dumps.

Reports aren't complete. You're missing the Systeminfo.txt file.

Let it run for at least 15 minutes - or until the app itself says that it's done. Then zip it up and upload it with your next post.
While waiting, ensure that you have ALL Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all.

I noticed that you don't have Secure Boot enabled. If you were having problems with it and changed it, please let us know.

It's not necessary to enable it now. But, should you reinstall Windows at some point in the future, please enable it first.

I mention this because it may happen that (one day) the system won't boot. This can be caused by a program changing your UEFI settings, or an update of the UEFI resetting it to default values.

To test and see if this is the cause, boot into the UEFI and see if the settings have been changed. If uncertain, try with Secure Boot both on and off (and the UEFI on UEFI or Legacy (CSM))

If it still doesn't boot after trying this, then move on to other troubleshooting tools as it's not likely to be due to this.

You have HWMonitor installed - what are the GPU temps running when under stress (such as running a video game)?

You have Furmark installed - what were the results of testing with that?

Your graphics drivers date from before Win8.1 came out. Where are you getting the updates from? If possible, please provide a link. I recall problems with the Intel graphics drivers when 8.1 first came out - so I have to wonder if this is the problem here.

Your BIOS dates from 2012. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. Use the tool to do it from within Windows (if possible) that'll reduce the risks associated with flashing the BIOS.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. Please do not uninstall the programs for these drivers as they are needed for the system to function properly. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thats weird, I got the SystemInfo.txt when I ran the app, but it didn't appear in the zip. I attached a new zip and I made sure the txt was in there.

I turned off Secure Boot because I wanted to install Linux Mint at one point, but then decided against it, and never turned Secure Boot back on. Should I turn it back on?

Since the graphics card is integrated, unless I am missing something, I didn't see any temps for graphics cards. The temps for the cores (Core 0, Core 1, Package, THRM) were all ~45C, which seems normal? I only have google chrome and HWMonitor open.

I had used FurMark before (not recently) to test, and ran it only for around half an hour, no BSOD's occured.

I'm not sure how to update the BIOS. So this page: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download A55A gives me a BIOS file (with extension .407?) and a BIOS flash utility. How do I proceed from here?

I also don't know how to update those two drivers, I did find an update for the ATK Package, but I'm not sure if that updated one or both of the drivers.

No problems seen in the systeminfo.txt file.

Don't worry about the Secure Boot for now. If you decide to reinstall Windows at some point, then would be the time to use it.

With FurMark, I'm interested in 2 things:
- does the program run without problems (not just BSOD's, but any other problems)
- does the temperature stabilize within normal limits (up to 79ºC) after it's been running for a while (if it doesn't, eventually the GPU will shut off when it overheats). Sometimes temps in the low 80's are OK - but I like to have a look at why it's happening first.

Quite often an integrated graphics card won't have a temp sensor - then you have to watch FurMark for problems that may be due to overheating (and shut the system down as soon as it happens). Problems will be various, but most common are distorted display, blank screen, crashing programs, BSOD's, or melting of the video card into a puddle on the floor of your case (just kidding on the last one!). While core temps aren't all that significant for GPU issues, the normal temp is suggestive that there's not a temp problem with the system.

The graphics link is appropriate, but as there were problems shortly after 8.1 was released - I'm uncertain if the issues had been fixed by the time this version was released (I think it was). Now we wait and see if the BSOD's have stopped. If they haven't, please zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post. You may have to copy them to your Desktop in order to zip them up.

Ok first I updated my graphics card driver (you linked to the 32 bit version but I downloaded the 64 bit version instead, I hope that doesn't matter).

The Asus Live Update tool is pretty useless, no updates reported since I got the laptop, even though I know there were updates. But I was able to update the BIOS using the flash utility, albeit the latest version is still is dated to 2012.

No further BSOD's have occurred, although I haven't been playing much video games now. I will play a few games and see what happens.

As for FurMark is there a specific setting I should do? All the warnings and stuff are quite scary. I ran it for 30 minutes (1376x768, 4x MXAA) (30 minutes is way longer than it took for the laptop to BSOD when playing league of legends, and I run league of legends at its lowest settings). No BSOD, no crash, distorsion, etc. Max temp of CPU barely hit 80C before the fan kicked in and it cooled down.

I generally find the Asus Live Update tool to be fairly useless - but occasionally it'll come up with a gem for me.
The BIOS update tool was our main concern here - so your getting it updated was the key!

As for the FurMark, it sounds like your video card is set to run the fan at 80ºC.
That's proper behavior and as long as the fan does it's job you shouldn't have any problems with overheating the video card under stress.

So, now we wait and see if you get more BSOD's. It's advisable to do everything that you think might cause them to see if you can force a BSOD.

That's proper behavior and as long as the fan does it's job you shouldn't have any problems with overheating the video card under stress.

So, now we wait and see if you get more BSOD's. It's advisable to do everything that you think might cause them to see if you can force a BSOD.

An update! I haven't had BSOD's for the past week, so it appears that the problem has been resolved... hopefully. If all of a sudden, either like tomorrow or like 2 months from now I start getting BSOD's of the same error code again, should I continue posting on this thread or make a new one?

That's a hard question to answer. In general, if it's been over 2 weeks since having a BSOD, I like to start over fresh.
But, as it's the same system, there are benefits to keeping things together (we can compare the state of the system from before and after).

All in all I'd say to post back here as long as it's the same system.
