Guest
Hi,

My system keeps crashing when under load e.g. stress testing or gaming. This is on the system in my signature specs. Please can someone take a look at the crash dump and advise what caused the problems?

Many thanks,

With only 1 dumpfile it is difficult to analyze.

The BSOD of your Dumpfile is a BugCheck 4E, {7, 112e7e, 88000000000000, 0} Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe
When a Windows/system driver like ntkrnlmp.exe is blamed when experiencing a BSO
it's most likely not the problem. Most of the time further analysis is needed to determine the actual cause.

But your WER= Windows Error Reports mentioned a few times Problemes signature USB\VID_046D and HID\VID_046
VID_ 046 = Logitech, i assume a Usb Logitech Keyboard and Logitech mouse

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi,
Thanks for your response,

I edited my initial post earlier and the attachment now includes three dump files. Could you please take a look?

I've downloaded the memory dumps.
I'd ask you to rerun the data collection app again - as this copy ony contains a couple of files - not the complete reports.
Let it run for 15 minutes, or until the app itself tells you that it's done.
I'll be back shortly with the memory dump analysis.....

One of the 3 memory dumps blames eamonm.sys - a driver for your ESET protection.
As such, I'd suggest:
- temporarily uninstall ESET
- enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall (while testing)
- see if that stops the BSOD's
- if it does, then download/install the latest Win8.1 compatible version of ESET to see if it's stable then.

BUT, the 3 memory dumps have 3 different errors - so the ESET may not be the actual problem:
Out of 3 memory dumps there were 3 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system (but I usually have 5 or more memory dumps before deciding this). They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

LGBusEnum.sys Mon Nov 23 20:36:48 2009 (4B0B38B0)
Logitech Keyboard
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=LGBusEnum.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings (this is in addition the the hardware diagnostics from Hardware Diagnostics )

The BSOD of your Dumpfile from Thu Mar 27 16:41:50.509 2014 is a BugCheck 7F, {8, ffffd000208481b0, 56f9918, fffff8024c08e217} Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe
When a Windows/system driver like ntkrnlmp.exe is blamed when experiencing a BSO
it's most likely not the problem. Most of the time further analysis is needed to determine the actual cause.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

Info: BSOD UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
from BSOD Index :
Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Overclocking failure, Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Troubleshooting:
If you recently added hardware to the computer, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component.
The memory scanner is especially important. Faulty or mismatched memory can cause this bug check
If you encountered this error while upgrading to a new version of the Windows operating system, the error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.
If the error appears on a newly installed system, check the availability of updates for the BIOS, the Storage controller, or network cards.

Memory tests can be found here

Eamonm.sys is the driver of Eset Anti Virus etc.
Which version of Eset are you using?
Eset version 7 is compatible with windows 8/8.1. ( I use it myself on my windows 8.1 system}.
Please upgrade or uninstall older version.

You're not using UEFI or Secure Boot. Is there any particular reason for this?
You can't change this unless you reinstall the entire Operating System, so it's probably not worth doing at this point.
Keep it in mind for the next time that you reinstall the OS.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the age of your Corsair AX 860 Power Supply?

The rest of the reports seem to be normal - without any signs of obvious problems
I'd suspect a memory error here. Most likely RAM (tested with MemTest86+ and Prime95, then video stress tests, then the CPU stress tests).

Hi,

Thanks for your responses,

I have removed Eset, I have also removed the Logitech drivers and reinstalled the latest version for my G19 keyboard from their website.

There is not really any reason as to why I am not using UEFI or Secure Boot would this help matters if I reinstalled the OS and set both of these up?

The Corsair AX 860 PSU is just a month old, I am looking at swapping this out next as I have swapped everything else out in the system and the issue still happens.

I have run memtest on each stick overnight and no issues were found there. I will contact Samsung regarding the drivers for the Samsung Magician software and see what they say about the drivers.

My Computer

I don't think it'd help to install using UEFI/Secure Boot right now.
I ask in case you had problems with it. If you did have problems with it we'd start troubleshooting that also.

FWIW - a reinstall of the OS can also be used as a diagnostic tool (if the system continues to BSOD after reinstalling Windows, that effectively rules Windows out as the cause). If you choose to reinstall, please get all Windows Updates, then update any missing drivers (in Device Manager) from the manufacturer's website. DO NOT install anything else until you see if the system is going to BSOD.

Just FYI -
Most BSOD's are solved (or the owner stops posting) after 2 pages.
The more difficult one's can go 5 or 6 pages (on average).

Unfortunately, PSU's aren't easy to test (it's easy to test for a dead one, but not for one that's still working).
OCCT has a PSU test in it's suite of tools (it's free): Home
I haven't used it myself, so you'll have to read the documentation on it.
At work, we just try another PSU
If you choose to try another one, purchase it from a place that will accept returns (that way you can get your money back if you don't need it).

Prime95 can expose errors that MemTest86+ doesn't see.
Please run it.

Also, please run the other video and CPU stress tests listed here: Hardware Diagnostics

Hi,

Many thanks for your response and apologies for the late response, The system has passed around 14 hours of Prime 95 without any errors and I have run memtest again without any error.

I have today received a response BSOD (Reference By Pointer) I have attached a new set of memory dumps and files.

Please can you advise what the likely cause of this was?

Many thanks,

My Computer

The one dumpfile of 01-04-2014 mention the procesname Furmark.exe.

Did you try to run the Furmark Test on your Pc.?

Hi,

Yes this occurred when I ran it for around 4 hours and then attempted to end the test this is when the BSOD was displayed. I was testing the GPU.

Is Furmark not compatible with Windows 8 then?

My Computer

A BSOD while running Furmark would suggest (to me) that there was an issue with the video card.
Is the result (BSOD) reproducible? By this I mean, does it BSOD every time that you try to end the test?

AMD OverDrive used to cause problems - I haven't seen many with the newer version.
That being said, I suspect it now - so here's my canned speech about it:
AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.
NOTE: these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive. The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

Arg4: ffffffffffffffff, Reserved
The reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.
Each time a driver uses a pointer to an object the driver calls a kernel routine
to increment the reference count of the object. When the driver is done with the
pointer the driver calls another kernel routine to decrement the reference count.
Drivers must match calls to the increment and decrement routines. This bugcheck
can occur because an object's reference count goes to zero while there are still
open handles to the object, in which case the fourth parameter indicates the number
of opened handles. It may also occur when the object?s reference count drops below zero
whether or not there are open handles to the object, and in that case the fourth parameter
contains the actual value of the pointer references count.

Hi,

Thanks for your further response,

I did install the latest Logitech Set Point drivers for the my G19 keyboard I guess that they have not updated those drivers though in a while. I used Driver Sweeper to remove all traces of the old drivers.

I've removed the AMD stuff from removing a program options in control panel and have just installed the driver for the GPU via device manager and so far I have not had another BSOD.

Regarding CPU stress tests, the system passed 100 passes with Intel Burn and I ran Prime 95 overnight without any errors. However, each time I run OCCT it will freeze from what I understand OCCT does tend to crash quite a lot, I have swapped out all hardware within the system so I don't think its a hardware related issue.

I hope the new major update for Windows 8.1 may improve things further.

My Computer

Hi,

I've now done a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I have attached a new set of logs etc, could you please confirm that UEFI boot and secure boot are showing as enabled? And that everything within Windows looks in good order?

Edit - System has just crashed again logs re-attached with dump file, when you have a moment could you advise what may have caused this?

Many thanks again for your help.

My Computer

UEFI and SecureBoot are working fine now.

Ensure that you have ALL Windows Updates - particularly anything relating to USB/USB 3.0 (as there is an xHCI USB error in the WER section of MSINFO32 - and it's the only error in there). Also check the PC manufacturer's website to see if there are any updates for USB/USB 3.0 and install any that are available.

Sometimes, in new setups, we find errors with this device (xHCI controller) in Device Manager. The solution is to right click on the device and select "Uninstall". Then reboot the system and check to ensure that the device doesn't have any problems.

As this is a USB error - what it plugged into your USB ports?
When figuring this out, keep track of what's plugged into which port.
Also, keep track of what's plugged into the USB 3.0 ports.

hal.dll is listed in the raw stack text for this problem - usually when I see this, it's due to a compatibility problem.

These devices all seem to be USB:
G19 Gaming Keyboard
CM STORM SENTINEL GAMING MOUSE
Model FCR-HS3 -1 USB Device
Model SanDisk Extreme USB Device
Brother QL-570 Brother QL-570 USB001 Not Available

Please remove them if they're not essential to the operation of the system.
For those that are essential (such as the keyboard and mouse), temporarily replace them with other devices in order to test them.

Uninstall the Logitech software as it's drivers date from 2009 (feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version once the system has been stabilized.
