BSOD while on Chrome, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Hello all,

I have a brand-new Lenovo Y510P, I just got it Tuesday. I spent the first few days getting it set the way I want (installing iTunes, Chrome, etc.) and it was fine.

On Sunday afternoon, while on ESPN.com, it crashed the error above. After restarting, I could get to the login screen but after I typed my password, the screen would go blank (black). I could use the mouse to move the cursor, but that was it. I called Lenovo, they were beyond helpless. After playing with it for a couple of hours, I managed (not really sure how, to be honest) to get it to come back on. Everything was okay for an hour, then it crashed again. This time, it started back up fine.

I used the "Refresh" function, then reinstalled my software and it was okay for the rest of Sunday and early Monday. At one point, while on Chrome again, it just totally crashed, no BSOD or anything, just kicked me back to the login screen. I was able to login right away and everything worked as normal.

As this is a brand new system - how long do you have to decide to return it?
Are there any fees for returning it?
This will affect how we proceed.

With a single BSOD, this is difficult to diagnose.
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Well, I'm not sure about the returning/fee. When I called Lenovo, they wanted me to wipe the hard drive - and because it was (according to them) software related and not hardware, they wanted to charge me $89.

For the red driver in the list, I did a Google search but couldn't find any updated copy. I assume I should just remove it?

See attached for the zip file.

A Driver_Power_State_Failure means that an IRP Packet is blocked. Typically, a Stop 0x9F with the first parameter is holding the value of 3, means that a certain device object (Windows representation of installed devices), is holding a IRP packet for too long and therefore creating a blockage of any further IRP packets to be processed.
At this point, for those who do not understand what a IRP is or how it works, quite simply a IRP is a I/O request packet, this data structure is used by the Windows operating system and other drivers to communicate with each other. The packets are handed by the I/O Manager which then routes these packets to the appropriate destination.

So, I checked the dump file for the blockage and I found

Now, this driver of Windows is basically used for the Streaming purposes according to this link - Driver Reference Table

I checked your DXDIAG file for searching the streaming devices and Voila! I found only a single reference to KSTHUNK i.e Lenovo EasyCamera

Hence, I strongly suggest you to remove this Lenovo EasyCamera by going to the My Computer and selecting Uninstall Programs And Features. Completely remove the Lenovo EasyCamera. Also, as a side measure, open any streaming website like youtube which use flash player, right click and disable the Webcam access under the Webcam setting.

Please let me know if it works or not which I think should work.

@John - Reference followed for getting that information - BSODTutorials: Debugging Stop 0x9F - Blocked IRPs

Thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of since sense I was online when it crashed.

I removed the EasyCamera.

Please test extensively and make sure you do the streaming as well. If you are satisfied, make sure to close this thread as SOLVED :)

I apologize, I marked this as Solved but over the last couple of days I noticed another issue - not sure if it's related or not. While on the internet, my computer will randomly go dark for about 20 seconds, kick me back to the main screen. I can log back in and when I do, the pages I had open are still up so the web isn't crashing, it's just the computer. Doesn't happen often, maybe 1-3 times a day or so.

See attached.

Not sure if it helps, but it happened three times in a 10 minute span just after I posted this last night. I had the internet opened, but minimized - it's like the computer is going to sleep. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think it happens while I'm active in a window, scrolling or reading. I triple-checked all of the power settings, nothing I can find should be causing the issue - the computer is plugged in, and the power settings don't call for anything to happen until 30 minutes of idle time.

Nothing really stands out in the log that you uploaded.
Please be sure that you have ALL Windows Updates - visiting several times to make sure that you have all updates

Visit the manufacturer's website to ensure that you have the most current UEFI/BIOS

Lot's of Bonjour service errors - give this link a try to remove it (then reinstall if you wish): Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after each one:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

If the problem is fixable, you can use this command to repair it (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after typing it:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

From this article: Repair a Windows Image

You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.
