Windows 8.1 x64 BSOD During Youtube Playback.

    Windows 8 x64

Well, as I have mentioned above I have all my drivers updated to the latest drivers all released after Oct 2013 making them Windows 8.1 x64 compatible except for one. That is the Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet driver. I compared all three sites (ASRock, Station Drivers, and Broadcom) and despite ASRock's page saying the driver on their page is a higher version number it is the same version that is listed on the other two sites. The driver is dated 7/26/2013.

I also fixed the disabled High Definition Audio Bus driver by disabling ULPS and then enabling it.

To make things a little easier in the future I want to start keeping good backups of my system. The problem is I have read that some backup programs are not compatible with GPT partitioned drives and SecureBoot. I found out that Macrium Reflect free can do the job. However, I have never used it before and don't know where to start since now I am using UEFI and SecureBoot. Anyone know how I can go about creating backups? Also, my hard drives in my PC are a 128GB Vertex 4, 60GB Solid 3, and a old SATAII 750GB Hitachi. Should I put my OS, Software, and Games on the two SSD's and use the 750GB drive for backups, or should I purchase a new SATAIII Hybrid drive or something and replace the small OCZ Solid 3 with it? Then use the OCZ Vertex 4 for my OS and software, SATAIII Hybrid drive for my games, and the old SATAII 750 Hitachi for backups?

    1) It's actually version numbers that matter with drivers. But, unfortunately, the OEM manufacturer's (and Microsoft/Windows Update) have access to drivers that we don't have - and then they may even change them for your particular system, so the version number may be theirs and not the device manufacturer's. Also, the date of the installation package may not even be close to the date of the drivers included in the installation package - so you have to be careful with that.

    2) Here are instructions on how to do it with Macrium: v5: How to create a disk image (Backup, Image, v5)
More importantly, you have to figure out how to restore the image beforehand - so that you can do it when the computer isn't working for you.

    You should consider 2 scenarios:
    - reimaging the current drive
    - imaging a new drive

This link points to the "Restore" portion of the Macrium KB: Macrium KB

I haven't used Macrium myself as I use Acronis True Image (and haven't had to restore from it for several years).

I'd use the SSD's for boot and programs - and leave the 750 gB drive for storing data and backups

    Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanations. I think everything is good to go now. I have been running for a few days now with the current drivers and haven't had any crashes. Also, there aren't any errors in the Event Viewer so everything seams to be running correctly. There is a warning though that concerns me because it keeps popping up and seams to refer to the card reader in my NZXT 810 Switch case. I'm not sure if its important or not but I figured I would post it before closing the topic as resolved. I have attached some screenshot of the card reader warning.

*Update - When I run diskcleanup I am getting an error message in event viewer now. It seams like these Windows 8/8.1 apps cause more errors than they do good. Here is the error information.

Warnings are just that - warnings that something might be wrong.
Update the drivers for the card reader to see if that helps
If the drivers are the most updated version, make sure they're compatible with Win8/8.1 and then remove them and replace with a fresh copy.

FWIW, the only app I've used is the Windows Store - and then only to install 8.1

Thanks for all your help. I cannot seam to find a driver for the card reader that comes with the 810 Switch located on NZXT's website. I don't use the apps in Windows 8/8.1 either. I go straight into the desktop and work from there. However, it seams when I look at the Event Viewer there is always errors in there pertaining to the apps in Windows 8.

I am having an issue with these backup programs as well. They are giving me VSS errors in the Event Viewer. I was doing some research on this and it seams the fix is that I need to add the proper permissions. However, I am not sure the fixes I found will work for Windows 8.1 x64 as they are from a while back. I haven't found anything recently. I ended up switching to AOMEI Backupper because it is nice and simple plus has a lot of features all for free. However, I keep getting these VSS errors. Would you happen to have any idea on how to fix them? I just don't want to end up running into a problem down the road where the backups are screwed up when I need them. The errors say that its often due to incorrect security settings?

    EventID 8194
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process.

    Open Device Manager
    Find the card reader there
right click on it and select "Properties"
    Then select the Details tab
in the dropdown box, select Hardware ID
I'm looking for the section that starts with VID_ and the one with PID_
We'll need the 4 characters after each one.

I haven't messed with backup programs in a long, long time.
I use the Windows backup program and Acronis True Image.
I'd suggest posting in the General Support forums for further advice.

The card reader is using a Microsoft driver dated 6/21/2006. I didn't find anything that said VID or PID under Hardware ID, but I did find them under the Last Know Parent drop down box. They say VID_058F and PID_6366. Thanks for the info on the backup program. I wasn't sure if I should post here or somewhere else. I will go ahead and post it in the general support forum and see if anyone has any suggestions. I emailed the people over at AOMEI but I haven't heard anything back yet from them. Thanks again for all your help.
