Multiple Problems; BSOD when gaming.

Hello everyone. I've been a long time lurker of seven- and eightforums but I really need to create my first thread for this one. It's extremely frustrating.

I recently purchased a new laptop to replace a broken one; it is an HP envy 14 k016tx, with Windows 8 64 bit (OEM I think?). The graphics card is a nvidia GT 740M and an integrated one called "Intel (R) HD Graphics Family", and I will happily supply any other information needed. I've been getting a few problems:

1. BSOD while gaming (as the title suggests) [NMI_HARDWARE_FAILURE and DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR]
2. Something along the lines of "Graphics driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered", but the game screen is stuck on all white, and a BSOD follows, and sometimes this happens with a delay.
3. Failed to update to 8.1 many times (rolled back to win8/bootloop). I had to get the almost brand-new laptop to the maintenance center to reinstall Win8.

The games that I have been playing include Hearthstone, The Binding of Isaac and Team Fortress 2. The BSOD happens regardless of fullscreen or windowed mode. Sometimes, it is foreshadowed by the "graphics driver (this can be either nvidia or windows, iirc) recovered" dialog that pops out on the task bar bottom right. It doesn't occur (hasn't so far) when I try to launch the win8 version of minesweeper.

This laptop had all the specs I wanted but is currently only capable of performing very minor tasks such as basic web browsing (videos are fine, though) and word processing. I believe I have updated drivers properly, but I must admit that it has been tough looking for the right drivers. Nvidia often prompts me to update to beta drivers and I always pick the clean installation option. I have downloaded most of my drivers from the HP website (Software & driver downloads HP ENVY 14-k016tx Sleekbook | HP® Support) but am not confident that the list is correct. I would be very grateful if someone could direct me to 'better' drivers! I am hoping to at least fix the gaming situation... I gave up on the idea of 8.1 as the maintenance center was not very helpful. They merely advised me to wait until 8.1 is more stable.

My warranty is still intact, but the trip between my home and the maintenance center is not very appealing, and it seems that they are only doing simple reinstallations. My faith in HP is decreasing by the second (this laptop has already been replaced once by the retailer. It had scratches and slow start times, receiving errors when I attempted to connect to any wifi networks), something is really fishy about this laptop and I really wish I could get a refund or another model now :( I will be creating a USB recovery drive soon, so hopefully I do not need to go to the center.

Please let me know if you require any additional information. I have attached the .zip file from SF Debug Tool as instructed.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,

Yeah, likely due to overclocking of the CPU, intentionally or not.

Uninstall Intel Smart Connect:

WPRO_41_2001 WPRO_41_2001.sys Mon Nov 07 16:04:48 2011 (4EB847F0)

If you're sure there is no overclocking, then for sure, just get a refund. You could try to update the bios to newest, just for a good measure attempt, if you want.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled the program but I just got another random BSOD (NMI hardware failure this time) before I could even click "load save file", seems like it is not working. Any clues?

Also, I would like to ask how I can check my current BIOS version, but I believe it is the most recent one, as the maintenance person called and mentioned that he restored my drivers...

Thanks!

Edit: I tried to run the .exe from HP's website, but the Insyde Flash Application just doesn't respond after I click next. Stumped.
