Hello EightForums,
<UPDATE - 2014/02/22 1:05AM>
I was in 'Safe Mode' when I first opened this thread, and upon restarting the laptop, it hit the same Kernel-Power error but with a different "Bug Check String" value in the dmp file while viewing it in BlueScreenView:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I can upload a second zip file with this latest iteration of this error, but I am not sure what the rules are about having multiple dmp files in a single thread. So I will wait for a response before I do anything else.
<UPDATE DONE>
I've had this problem more or less recurring for the past several weeks (if not longer) regarding Windows 8.1 and the booting error "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you." This mainly occurs after the laptop is turned on and it attempts to load Windows 8.1 (irrespective of the previous method of how the laptop was shutdown).
I attempted to look at the dmp files and the event logs Windows generated around the time of error and the common issue I see is the following:
Event Viewer
Source: Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41, Task Category (63)
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
BlueScreenView
Bug Check String: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Caused By Driver: ntoskrnl.exe
I tried some of the temporary fixes like changing the power options and the "Write Debugging Information" in Startup and Recovery to "Small memory dump (256kb)".
However, these were temporary as it appears that the BSOD affects the laptop on random days, with no noticeable pattern in behaviour. To the best of my knowledge, I've updated the drivers to their most recent versions since that was cited as a possibility. I also ran 'Windows Memory Diagnostic' once; unfortunately I was not entirely present while it was running and upon returning to my laptop (I did see it go to Stage 2 of 2), the laptop restarted and hit the "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - ntoskrnl.exe" issue again, which led me to open this thread.
I would appreciate it if someone could take a look at this since it appears that each solution is unique, despite the problem being all too common.
Thanks in advance.
