Random BSOD error code 0x124

Hello,

I've recently upgraded my pc where I installed a new Motherboard (ASUS Z87-PLUS) , CPU (I5 4670k) and a GPU (GTX780TI). After having done this I've started encountering some problems while using it. The computer has started BSODing along with the message "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR". The BSODing is seemingly random where I've had it crash both when I'm gaming and while the pc is idle. I am not running an overclock and as far as I know this is not a temperature issue.

I have already installed a fresh version of Windows 8 in an attempt to fix this. I've also updated all of my drivers along with my BIOS as well as Windows to their latest versions. I've started to suspect that I've got a faulty component although I'd like some with this.

Thanks :)

Hi

The first thing i noticed is that your RAM seems to be running on wrong configuration. The Kingston module is rated for 1333 Mhz but it is currently running on 1600 Mhz.

Code:
[B]RAM[/B]
[B]12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 801MHz (9-9-9-27)[/B]

I have seen BSOD 0x124 caused by overclocked memory modules so your first steps should be nothing but to configure the RAM to run on correct settings.

Please enter BIOS setup and switch to the Advanced mode. Then Navigate to the AI Tweaker Menu. For the sub item Memory Frequency, change value to 1333 instead of Auto. After saving and rebooting, rerun Speccy and make sure RAM frequency is now reported as 667 Mhz (1333/2).

Please report whether it makes any difference.

Alright, I fixed that. Speccy now reports it as running at 667 Mhz.

I'll report back if I crash again. Thanks.

Nope, that didn't solve it. I just crashed again. I crashed while playing Payday 2 although it had been running for roughly 2 hours until it did crash.

I'll attach the latest crash file although it's seemingly identical to the previous ones.

Thank you for your help so far.

Hi

There is no problematic or severely outdated drivers can be seen in the crash dump you uploaded. So the issue should be a low level hardware/compatibility problem.

Please try the below steps.

1. Reset all components and connectors.

Even a simple contact issue can cause weird problems. Please remove and re-insert all peripheral cards (RAM , Graphics card etc) and cable connectors to solve any potential contact issues.

2. Run hardware diagnostics.

A stop 0x124 can be caused by any of the major component in the system including but not limited to CPU ,RAM and MoBo. To test the RAM, please run Memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least eight passes.

How to use Memtest86+ - RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Help Forums

Report whether the test detect errors during the test. Please not that this is a time consuming process and it may take several hours to complete eight passes.

To torture test the CPU, please use Prime95 - Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 - Windows 7 Help Forums

What you need to run is the SmallFFT test for around three hours. Make sure to select Advanced --> Round Off Checking (check reply #1) . Once the test completes 3 hours, copy and paste the contents of Results.txt (which will be located in the same folder) with next reply.

Hello Anshad,
I've checked, removed and re-inserted all components in my computer. In doing so I noticed that I had set the RAM up incorrectly. (A1 4gb, A2 4gb B1, 2gb, B2 2gb) I had mixed the 2 different RAM sets across two separate channels. I removed the 2gb ram sticks and I made sure that the RAM was inserted correctly and correctly set up. (A1 4gb, B1 4gb) Unfortunately this was not the solution as I got a BSOD a few hours ago.

I have run the Prime95 test for a little bit over 3 hours and I believe that it ran without any errors. My CPU temperature was around 75C during the entire test.

Hello Anshad,

I tried to get the Memtest86+ to run on a usb drive last night but it never booted correctly. I tried with previous versions and I tried booting it on other computers but to no avail. I'm going to try to burn it to a cd tonight and see what happens.

I've run Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool which passed.
