Hi there,

This is my first foray onto the eightforums list. I hope I have done everything right.

Having a Computer Repair shop, I figured that I should know what Windows 8's problems are and how to resolve them. I installed Windows 8 onto my computer shortly after Windows 8 came out. Admittedly I did not like the format, but a classic shell made it more usable. Then the computer started crashing; not a lot, just one or two times a day; usually when I was trying to help a client or researching parts.

I had heard good hype about Windows 8.1 so as soon as I could after it came out, I upgraded to 8.1. What a mistake. The first afternoon it crashed 6-7 times. Since then, between 10 am and 7 pm it has crashed at least 13 times every day. As I was putting together my crash logs to submit this question, it crashed two more times!

The BSOD has referenced System Service Exception, IRQL_Less_Than_or_Equal, Khost - something... and another issue that I don't now remember. Several times the crash log has blamed ntkrnlmp.exe. I have been very tempted to reformat the drive and reinstall Windows 7, but that won't help me learn how to help others. I am attaching the latest Crash Dump info and look forward to your advice. Thank you!

Hi

First thing i noticed is the BIOS date of your system. It is clearly not certified for "Window 8".

Code:
[BIOS Information (Type 0) - Length 24 - Handle 0000h] Vendor American Megatrends Inc.
  BIOS Version 1401
  BIOS Starting Address Segment f000
  BIOS Release Date [COLOR=#ff0000][B]01/09/2009[/B][/COLOR]
  BIOS ROM Size 100000

Compatibility might be an issue here.

Please try the below steps.

1. Update system BIOS.

Download and update to the version 2701 from the below link.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78EM/#support

This is also pre-Win8 but contains several stability improvement fixes.

2. Update ATI chipset driver.

3. Uninstall AVG antivirus and Superantispyware.

Kernel mode drivers used by AV programs can cause rogue blue screens. Until the system became stable, it is better to stick with the built in "Windows defender".

After uninstalling them through Control Panel, use the official removal tools to clean the leftovers. Otherwise Kernel mode drivers may not be removed properly.

Superantispyware removal tool : http://www.superantispyware.com/downloads/SASUNINST64.EXE

4. Update Realtek LAN driver.

Code:
[COLOR=RED][B]Rtnic64.sys                 Fri May 30 20:42:23 2008 (48401957)[/B][/COLOR]Realtek Ethernet NIC driver
