just about 1 week ago when i started up my pc, it booted windows, but after the 'Windows developer preview' text happens nothing (screen wents black) and just in 30 mins the computer tries to restart. this has happened only once, but i cured it with system restore (no, i haven't installed anything lately) and today, even system restore didn't help. Then i restored my computer (all of my programs are gone...) but i would like to know what is causing this, since it didn't give me any error messages.

    Look, what i've created... just a few visits at the recyclement center was enough...
The only thing I can say is that it's very odd and without any BSOD data or other detailed info the experts here wont be able to help you :(

If you can boot do these two things.

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for all errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.




We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

It is almost impossible to spot trends from a single DMP file so if you have more than one please upload them. If you only have one please wait until the computer crashes again then upload both.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.



The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

i believe, that those files dissappeared/ got removed when i refreshed my pc, also, i did try almost all of the options in F8, but i wondered just one thing... Wheres the safe mode? i didn't find it anywhere :eek: but let's see, if the problems still continue...

Check the tutorial section for booting in safe mode.

For future security I suggest you image the system periodically. Then it will be easier to get back on your feet.
