Hi,

I get a BSOD after a while of gaming (mainly Battlefield 3).
Sometimes I can play about 2hrs without a problem and sometimes I get the BSOD every 30mins.

My specs:
Mainboard: Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
CPU: Intel XEON E3 1230 V2
GPU: Gigabyte GTX680-OC 2GB
RAM:
16GB-Kit Patriot G2 1600MHZ, CL 9-9-9-24
Power: Super-Flower SF450P14XE Golden Green Pro 80plus gold
OS: Windows 8

Max-Temperatures:
CPU: 45°C
GPU: 65°C

Recently I had installed the nevest NVIDIA Driver 320.49 and also tried the 326.80beta. I tried also disabling the NVIDIA Inspector and MSI Afterburner-Tool but anyway I got the BSOD.
The BSOD occurs while gaming. Mostly it crashes with BSOD, sometimes it just crashes to Desktop "..had stopped working..."
Please help me, it's pretty annoying.

Did the BSOD start after you upgraded the drivers?

Are you sure that a 450 watt PSU is sufficient for powering 4 hard drives and all the other stuff on your system? I'm not a PSU expert, so I'm only guessing here.

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Gigabyte EasyTune6 (ET6) and EasySaver are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems. Please uninstall them.

One of the memory dumps blames the driver for your Razer Copperhead - and the driver dates from 2009. PLease uninstall the Razer software. If you wish to continue using the Copperhead, please download and install the latest, Win8 compatible version of the Copperhead drivers - old Razer drivers are known to cause BSOD's.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

DDCDrv.sys Tue Apr 8 03:50:11 2008 (47FB23B3)
WinI2C-DDC Kernel Mode Driver is a driver file from company Nicomsoft
DDCDrv.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed.

@Wullail
The BSOD I am getting before and after I upgraded the drivers

@usasma
Yes I think the 450W PSU is sufficient, because I measured about 250W of power consumption under load. Besides before 6 months (with Win7) the system went fine without BSODs.
So I will follow your advices and see how it works. Thanks for your work.

Hi everyone,

here are my solving-steps for the listed drivers until now:

GVTDrv64.sys Tue Sep 5 03:10:02 2006 (44FD22CA)After uninstall of Easy Tune 6 it still remains in the Driver List. Also I can find it in the Registry. But as I uninstalled Easy Tune 6 I think the GVTDrv64.sys should not longer be accessed
DDCDrv.sys Tue Apr 8 03:50:11 2008 (47FB23B3)No way to update found.
On the Website form Nicomsoft you can just download a SDK Trial Version (no x64 support unless you buy the full version for about 700bucks)
Download WinI2C/DDC SDK
gdrv.sys Thu Mar 12 23:22:29 2009 (49B9D175)Interesting, because I had never installed Gigabyte Easy Saver (perhaps it came with Easy Tune 6) here are my steps to get rid of it:
1. Searched Registry for gdrv.sys
2. Exported (Backup) the Keys containing gdrv.sys
3. Deleted the keys
4. In C:\Windows renamed the gdrv.sys in gdrv.sys_
copperhd.sys Tue Nov 10 02:50:17 2009 (4AF91B39)1. I uninstalled the Razer Copperhead Utility, but the copperhd.sys remains in the Driver List
2. Unplugged the Razer Copperhead (I always have used 2 mice on my desk. Copperhead below the desk next to my keyboard for office use in a relaxed position and a Roccat Kone on top oft he desk for gaming)
RTCore64.sys Tue Sep 6 08:24:50 2011 (4E661112)I uninstalled RivaTuner/EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner

After playing BF3 for an hour I got the next BSOD

I am not overclocking my system.
Should I run any Memory-Testing or Benchmark tools to see if I have got a hardware problem?

These steps sometimes take a bit of time.
It doesn't matter if the drivers seem to remain in the system - only if they load and are involved in the BSOD's.
Just wait and see if they show up in subsequent BSOD's

If you'd like, you can run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

The copperhead driver is blamed in the first BSOD.
The second BSOD doesn't blame it - but the 2009 version of the copperhead driver is still there.
Please uninstall the copperhead software and physically remove the copperhead device from your system (use another device with the built in Windows drivers temporarily - to see if that stops the BSOD's)

We'll hold off on removing the DDCDrv.sys driver for now - as the copperhead is the most likely suspect here.

I cross my fingers, but after unplugging the Razer Copperhead i had no more BSOD so far...
Thanks very much!!

By the way usasma, how did you see, that guilty was the copperhead? In the dump I just found that ntkrnlmp.exe caused the problem. Where did you find the clue to copperhead.sys??

First, ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel (core) of the Operating System. If it was bad you'd see many more problems other than just the occasional BSOD.

What I noticed was the driver for the Copperhead was present in the dump files - and that it was older.
And, from my previous experience, older Razer drivers usually cause BSOD's on later Windows systems.

But there's a couple of other things to consider
- BSOD's are actually fairly rare, so you'll see a lot of people using the same drivers without problems. That's why we need a special BSOD forum - to gather these rare errors in a place where they'll be noticed.
- BSOD's are sometimes associated with a combination of factors - such as the Gigabyte EasyTune6 and the Gigabyte EasySaver. So it may not be fixed until we remove all of them.
- It's most likely that the older Razer drivers are to blame, but it could also be the combo. I wouldn't use the Copperhead unless you can get new, Win8 compatible drivers for it.

Good luck!

Thank You

Hey guys, all I have to say is "Thank You"!

After a week of testing, my system is running fine now. The biggest problem on my PC were the Copperhead and Easy Tune 6.
When I had the Copperhead removed I still got some Crash to Desktop when Playing (at least no more BSOD).
So as you adviced me, I uninstalled Easy Tune 6 . Then my system worked fine.

I tried to install Gigabyte OC Guru II to be able to manage the fans of my graphicscard. Still everything worked fine.

When I am using programs as Easy Tune 6 or Speedfan I get Crash to desktop errors when playing a game, so I have to live without this tools.
