Many BSOD on boot up followed by system restore

I recently put together this computer from parts piece by piece. Unfortunately all these problems started on a particularly large upgrade including new motherboard, processor, heatsink, ram and gpu. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this problem. Sometimes when I start up I get a BSOD, often a random cause, I've never seen any consistency. And that can cause up to 3-4 BSOD's in a row on boot up until eventually a system repair is attempted, which has to perform a system restore. After the system restore I get another one or two crashes before I am able to keep my computer on. Then a couple of days later, I might suffer the same bizarre chain again.

Any ideas? I'm fairly new to this whole computer building and troubleshooting thing.

Thanks for your help,
TheNDGhost

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Just FYI - these look to be drivers from an OEM system. As such, a number of the older storage controller drivers may not be needed. I'd suggest contacting the OEM for assistance with these.

Well I have reinstalled windows to clear out the old drivers and am planning on updating all the other drivers when I get home from work. Thanks for the help in pointing out that it might be caused by old drivers. I did ask asus which drivers I'd need for my new motherboard but they haven't got back to me with anything other than a message saying 'update your drivers' without actually answering my question. I'll give you another update once I have finished updating drivers.

Go to the Asus Support website and look up the make and model of your motherboard.
There'll be a downloads page with all the drivers for that mobo.

If having problems, post back with the exact model of your mobo and we can point it out to you.

Ok so I've attempted to install everything from the ASUS support website but for some reason I can't install the intel raid stuff. Btw my motherboard is P8H77-V. It gives an error stating that my system doesn't meet the minimum specs to install. What that leaves me with is that those storage controllers that you wanted me to update, are stuck on Microsoft Storage Space Controller, dated 21-6-2006. And my computer is convinced that is the most up to date version. Not really sure where to go anymore to fix that seen as the intel rapid storage drivers won't install.

Thanks,
TheNDGhost

There's many different things that could cause this - so it's best to see if it's still involved in the crashes.
Let's just wait for further BSOD's. If they happen, please zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post.

Thanks for your help before. Things were going pretty well for a while but after upgrading to 8.1 on a fresh install of windows 8 the problems are back, but in a different colour it seems. I now at boot up get 6-7 bsod before I can use my computer, and they are almost always related to Attempted execute of no execute memory. The main culprit being ntoskrnl.exe in most of these crashes. I haven't had much luck since moving to windows 8 :(

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD. I usually can't see this info in the reports, so I rely on you to check it.
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to. If involved these should be visible in the memory dump - but it doesn't hurt to check manually.

Please update all drivers to ensure that they are compatible with Win8.1 - particularly pay attention to these:
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=HECIx64.sys
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=RzSynapse.sys
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=L1C63x64.sys
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=nvhda64v.sys
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=nvvad64v.sys

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
