BSOD Kernel_Security_Check_Failure

So, I've built myself a gaming PC. Everything works great and runs fine and I'm really liking it, except every time I play Crysis 2 (Only happens with Crysis, all my other games work fine) my system crashes and I get a BSOD that says "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE" I looked around elsewhere online and couldn't find anything helpful. While it only takes about 15-20 seconds until I can log into Windows 8 again, it is still inconvenient and I'd really prefer to not crash my system repeatedly if I can avoid it. So for the time being I will just stop playing Crysis 2 until I find a fix.

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8 Pro
The Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service/KillerNetManager is known to cause BSOD's. Please follow the workaround instructions here:
First, open the Run dialog (Win + R keys) and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Scroll down and locate the "Qualcomm Atheros Killer Service" and right click on it. Select "Stop"
Right click on it again and this time select "Properties"
In the dropdown box for "Startup type", select "Disabled", then click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window

Next, open Task Manager (right click on TaskBar and select "Task Manager")
Click on the "More details" dropdown (if present)
Click on the "Startup" tab
Scroll down and locate the "KillerNetManager" entry, right click on it and select "Disable"

Finally, restart the system in order for the changes to take affect.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :
