Does the system still have problems if you're not overclocking?
Slow boot time and snail-like performance. I'm not overclocking manually, perhaps some Intel utility (like Speed Boost) is doing it for me. No sign of it in BIOS though.

Does the system still overheat in sleep? How did you troubleshoot the overheating issue?
It doesn't. Heating + Overall slow performance + Event log (4 enries on the screenshot). Still it's just a guess.

    Have you updated your BIOS?
    Yes, latest version.

Have you communicated with the manufacturer to see if this is a warranty issue?
Purchased through Ebay, waiting for a copy of receipt. Haven't contacted ASUS yet.

    What is IEST?
    Sorry, EIST x-\. Intel SpeedStep.

    Win8.1Pro - Finally!!!

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to default values?
Have you tried running without Intel SpeedStep? I'm uncertain, but can you turn it off in the BIOS/UEFI?
Could you please provide this info (FYI, I'm grasping at straws here and don't even have an idea of how to proceed):
    Please do the following:
    - open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
    - expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
    - right click on Administrative Events
    - select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
    - save the file as Admin.evtx
    - zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
    - upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Check clock speed (CPU-Z is good) before and after disabling SpeedStep.

    Continue to monitor CPU temps

Another link suggests that Asus Power4Gear is the cause. Have a look at this topic: Processor or Battery problem? - Internal Hardware

Have you checked Processor Power Management in the Power Options? See this link for more info: Kernel Processor Power - Warning Msgs - Windows Vista - MSFN Forum (you'll have to search the Internet Wayback Machine for the links in the last post) You have to stop the page immediately after it loads, or you'll get taken to

Regardless, the thing here is setting the Maximum CPU to 100% when on AC power

Other suggestions relate to using the battery (are you?) and to having the correct AC adapter (do you?)

More settings advice - may not be exactly the same for your BIOS/UEFI: Event 37: The speed of processor # in group # is being limited by system firmware - ITExperience.NET

    Summary (in no particular order):
    - BIOS/UEFI power and CPU settings
    - Windows power and CPU settings
    - OEM power and CPU settings (such as Asus Power4Gear Hybrid)
    - 3rd party power and CPU settings (such as Intel SpeedStep)
    - BIOS/UEFI updates
    - Bad/wrong/disconnected battery/AC Adapter
    - Overheating
