Need Help with BSOD-issues

Dear forum community,

I'm having problems with BSOD. It mostly occurs when I'm doing memory intensive stuff such as playing Civ5 or importing/exporting images through lightroom.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

C: drive only has about 7% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

The drivers for this device aren't installed:
Videocontroller für Multimedia PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_8852&SUBSYS_71D10070&REV_04\4&C9C687&0&0009 Die Treiber für dieses Gerät wurden nicht installiert.
This is most likely a Conexant CX23888 AVS Video Capture (PalomarMHD)
Please install them.

The BSOD's appear to be mostly low-level problems, this include:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Previous errors (in the WER section of MSINFO32) tend to point at video - so I'd focus my efforts on troubleshooting that first: Video TDR Timeout - 0x116 + 0x117 - Sysnative Forums

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Usasma, thanks a lot for your reply!

I freed up space on C: drive (80GB). However, there is something I don't understand: The explorer tells me that 78.3 GB out of 237 GB is free. Hence 158.7 should be used. However, if I add the size of all folders in the drive (including hidden ones), I only get 129. What happened to the missing 29.8GB?

As for the device without installed driver: that was a TV-tuner card which I don't use anymore. I unplugged it.

As for the driver Rt630x64.sys Wed Oct 19 08:12:55 2011 (4E9EBEC7), how do I update that or how do I find the responsible program?

Unfortunately the problem still persists. I attached the latest dump. Can you please give me further instructions?

The missing gB's can be due to many different things - I'd suggest posting over in the General forums to get more specific answers.

You have a Controller der Familie Realtek PCIe GBE
The link for the Rt630x64.sys driver points to here: Realtek
Download and install the "Win8 and Win8.1 Auto Installation Program (SID:1594877)" which is the 4th one down on that page

What were the results of the hardware diagnostics that I suggested that you run?

This set of errors points to video, but if it's a hardware problem that may not be significant. Still, you'll need to complete the hardware diagnostics first (remove the overclock first).

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.
Processor may be overclocked!
Expected Frequency: 3400
Actual Frequency: 3503
Overclock Ratio: 1.03029

Also, you may want to run Driver Verifier just to be sure: Driver Verifier Settings

Pretty sure that it has one, but haven't checked inside the case!
    Memory
upgraded to 12 gB from 8 gB
    Graphics Card(s)

    PSU
Why do we ask this for laptops?
    Case
Silver with a neat Samsung logo
    Cooling
sub-par, gotta get around to working on it soon Worked on it - still sub-par! :(

Yes, I use this (Firefox mostly, w/IE next most)
    Antivirus
    Windows Defender and Windows Firewall
    Other Info
    I'm handsome and a snappy dresser :0)
I've run the "Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Auto Installation Program (SID:1594877)" so I suppose that driver issue is now fixed.

Next I've run the memdiag and it did show errors. I then tested each of my two 4GB sticks individually and removed the one that yielded errors. However, I'm still running into BSODs.

I installed the FurMark GPU Stress Test and - bang - got a BSOD after about one minute. I also monitored the temperatures with CPUID HWMonitor: nothing too hot.
So what does that mean? I'm using the Intel HD Graphics 4000 of my processor (no other graphic board). Is that a bad idea? Should I buy a graphic board? Or run more tests ?

I would suspect your graphics card as you have consistent problems when running Furmark.
Try the other video tests listed at Hardware Diagnostics

The definitive test would be to try another graphics card.
Make sure that, if you buy one, you purchase it from a place that will give you your money back if it's not needed.

But, realize that this is a problem with the motherboard (as the graphics are built into it) - and you've had problems with the RAM being bad. I'd wonder if there is other, undiscovered damage on the board (but on the other hand, a new mobo can cost a lot and will involve a lot of work to replace)?

Good luck!
