BSOD Can't Start Computer

So here is what happened, and what I've tried. The problem started today when I powered on my desktop. The bios loaded and completed post. Windows 8 logo comes up like usual, and then goes to a BSOD and restarts quicker than I can read the error code. When the computer finished auto restarting, it completed post and had the windows 8 attempting repairs screen come up. That also crashes and immediately restarts. I attempted over 5 times to shift+f8 to access safe mode with no success.

I then pulled out the SSD and plugged it into my laptop with my BlacX to scan externally. Windows 8 recognized the drive was there, but can not load because it had a "corrupted file system." I still scanned for viruses using AVG 2013 and it worked fine and came up clean.

Tempted, I tried hooking the SSD from my laptop into the desktop and I received the same issue of the PC Blue screening and restarting, but it still works in my laptop.

While I look inside at the hardware, I was wondering if someone could look through the dump file it made on my laptop SSD when I tried it. I can link you to my previous thread where I had some issues in the past with my Desktop mouse causing driver issues on Win 8 if you want more dump information.

Thanks for the long read!

Zach

So I did a bit more work. I hooked the Desktop SSD into my laptop. The Windows 8 automatic repair got it to boot on my laptop. So I hooked it back into the desktop and it now shows the bluescreen that says Cache Manager Error. Hope that helps!

Thanks,

Zach

EDIT: Would it be helpful to attach SF Diagonstics of my Desktop SSD while it is in my laptop? Also I'm running Memtest86 on the desktop after I did some googleing.

One system at a time. I know that you're eager to fix this, but we've gotta be methodical about this.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

MSINFO32 report is incomplete, please do this:
MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

This is a Cache Manager error, with NTFS.sys (the file system on the hard drive) being blamed. This could be due to problems with the laptop (unlikely IMO as you haven't related any other problems with the laptop) - or it could be due to the SSD (or it's drivers, which are on the laptop).

I'm late for work, so I can't review your previous topic, but here's what I suggest:
1) Ensure that the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.[/quote]
3) Run any diagnostics that are available from the SSD manufacturer's website
4) If no diags are available, try this free tool: Software - Crystal Dew World

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

NOTE: You may not be able to update any of these (with the possible exception of the HP Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter) as they are storage drivers that are loaded "just in case" by the OEM manufacturers. I don't mess with them, so leave them be for now.

I appreciate your help very much. I'll tackle these on your post in order.

I would also like to note for no reason, now my laptop SSD will not get past the log in screen without freezing. I have scanned both SSD's for malware and viruses with malwarebytes/AVG.

I have no clue why my laptop SSD is not wanting to work. All I was doing on it was opening Steam to view summer sale when it froze. I restarted it, and it freezes on the logging in "Welcome" screen before the metro comes up.

I would like you to note, the msinfo32.exe I gathered was using my desktop SSD inside the laptop.

HP's site only has a bios update from this date: 2011-11-21 , Version:F.29, 4.89M

The Memtest86 v4.3 came up with no errors on my Desktop RAM after 19 hours of testing w/ 5 full passes.

Next update. From my laptop, I updated my firmware for the desktop SSD. Now my desktop boots up just fine. My laptop still freezes on startup. What should I do from here?

I'm asking because, I don't think you want me to update drivers till we find out why the laptop ssd won't boot. I am completely fine with backing up important data from the laptop, and just reformat install win8 again. Then move on from there.

Also, I don't think reading the previous threads will help you work on the laptop.

Thanks again for your time!

If the laptop works just fine with the Desktop SSD, then the laptop SSD must be at fault.
I'd suggest wiping the laptop SSD, then installing Windows "clean": Canned Speeches - Clean Install
If you still have problems, then it's likely a hardware problem with the laptop SSD.

I just ran into another problem. I put my 2nd HDD (HDD used to store music and backup of files) back into the desktop, and the SSD wouldn't boot again. Is it possible the cache manager error is caused from having both plugged in?

The laptop SSD wouldn't boot - or the desktop SSD?
If it's the laptop SSD, then I'd say it was a problem with the SSD and it needs to be replaced.

If it's the Desktop SSD, then I'm confused! :0)

So sorry that I'm confusing you. Forget about the laptop. I can just reformat that.

The desktop won't boot with both of the hard drives in it. If just the primary SSD is in, it will. The second harddrive is used for music and games. It is a 1TB HDD. The desktop gives me Cache Manager BSOD when both are plugged in.

What I'm wondering is do you know anything I can try to do that will fix this?

The SF DIAG of the Cache Manager BSOD is in my last post.

Thanks.

I would try another hard drive (it doesn't have to have much of anything on it) in place of the 1 tB music/games hard drive.
That'll tell you if it's the 1 tB drive or the SSD causing this.
You can also try a hard drive diagnostic on the 1tB drive: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

There's a possibility that this isn't related to the hard drive/SSD issue. One of the memory dumps points to network issues (but a bunch of differing BSOD' may suggest a hardware problem).

Please remove the DirecTV2PC application as at least on of it's drivers (ntk_dtv_64.sys) dates from 2009.

The only 3rd party drivers in the latest memory dump are related to AVG. Please:
- uninstall AVG
- enable Windows Defender (use the Action Center for this)
- enable the Windows Firewall (use the Action Center for this)
- test for further BSOD's

If you're still able to reproduce the BSOD's (after doing the above) when you connect the 1tB HDD, then it's most likely a hardware problem

It might be time to start running these free, hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Good luck!
