New Windows Machine, Constant Crashes, Freezing and Resets

I just built my own computer a week ago and I am having horrendous problems with it. I had to do a fresh install of Windows 8 just yesterday. All I have done is updated the drivers for my motherboard and graphics card. Do I need the SATA RAID/AHCI drivers? Last time installing those drivers caused me to not be able to start windows. I will attach the dump files.

I just crashed again while trying to upload the dump files. Please help me.

Two more crashes in minutes. I don't know what to do. I've read that this could be a memory problem?

I used the windows memory diagnostic for Windows 8 and found no problems.

Could this be the fact that Haswell likes 1.5V but the RAM runs at 1.65V? I checked the BIOS and what it said instead was that the RAM was running at a lower speed (1333 vs 1600).

As far as I can tell that isn't the problem. Any more suggestions?

Yes
If afraid of crashes due to this driver:
- be sure that you have the correct drivers for your motherboard's controllers
- make a backup - both of the system and of the entire drive (use Windows 7 File Recovery in Control Panel)
- make a recovery drive (type "recoverydrive" (without the quotes) at the Start Screen)
- make a System Repair disc ( Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER )
- set a System Restore Point

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

Out of 9 memory dumps there were 7 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

I have been running MemTest86+ for now. One stick of RAM went through 13 passes no problem, and the other stick is running right now.
I ran a MalwareBytes scan on both drives as well.
I believe I updated the latest firmware on the SSD.

I have a few questions about the SATA RAID/AHCI drivers though. They are located here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-Z87X-UD3H (rev. 1.0)

Is it safe to install both a driver and its hot fix at the same time, or should I install the driver first, restart, and then install the hot fix?

When you are referring to the storage controllers, do you mean the SATA RAID/AHCI drivers? I googled "storage controllers" and "storage controllers motherboard" and couldn't quite understand what you meant. All I was directed to was information on RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. Even if I'm not using RAID, the SATA drivers are important, I presume (as you said before)?

My final (and presumably important) question is, do I need to install the "preinstall drivers"? They are available for both the Intel and Marvell SATA.

EDIT: One more question. You said that I should look at the BIOS. I noticed that the current version is F3, whereas the one available on the website is F5. However, I've read that "flashing the BIOS" is potentially dangerous. Should I only do that at last resort?

At work we'll install the driver and if it doesn't ask for a reboot, then we'll just pile the hotfix right on top of it.
But to be safe, I'd reboot in-between.

In the majority of the cases storage controller drivers are the SATA/RAID/AHCI drivers.
I use the less precise "storage controller" term for a couple of reasons:
- it saves me time (if I haven't spotted issues in the dump files) looking for what date the drivers were made. In general, if it the storage controller doesn't show in the memory dump, it's probably not involved.
- other storage controller drivers are often mounted by OEM's even if there's not a physical controller on the motherboard. There is some evidence that other storage controller drivers (to include SATA/RAID/AHCI/USB/etc) will affect an SSD even if the SSD is not connected to that controller (and I'm still unsure of how the OEM mounted one's impact the SSD)
- dump_xxxx.sys and hiber_xxxx.sys drivers are storage drivers also. They're copied from the base driver (xxxx.sys) in order to be used when there is a crash.
- there are also Windows storage controller drivers (updated through Windows Update) that are also involved in the crashes.

An example of the last 2 points is the dump_storahci.sys. It's the copy made in case of a crash and the base driver (storachci.sys) is a Windows storage controller driver. Also, we can tell from the dump_storahci.sys driver that the storahci.sys driver is dated from Mar 1, 2013.

In the case of your mobo, the main "storage controller" drivers are the Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) drivers and the Marvell SATA drivers. As for the USB controller, your mobo doesn't offer a driver for it, so we presume that it's provided by Windows. Also the hotfix for it appears to be Windows Updates - so check and see if those updates are installed already.

The preinstall drivers aren't needed when a system is up and running. These are the drivers that are installed using a floppy drive (or CD/DVD/USB drive in newer versions of Windows) when the drivers aren't included in the Windows installation disk. This happened a lot in XP, and often is used with clean installs on Advanced Format drives when the drivers (on the install disk) don't support the Advanced Format drives.

BIOS flashing is dangerous because one mistake can damage your motherboard. And repair isn't usually feasible (although you can get replacement chips for $25 to $50) because of the skill required to replace the CMOS/BIOS chip.
I'd suggest holding off on flashing your BIOS now and only do it as a last resort.
