Display Driver stopped responding & sometimes BSOD

Hello,

One week ago I started getting BSODs and "Display Driver stopped responding" messages on a daily basis whenever I try to play a video game... Well I just went on Amazon.com using Google Chrome and got another display driver stopped responding message, so maybe it's not just happening when I try to play games.

The Windows 8 reliability history tells me that the first time I encountered a Video hardware error was about 12 days ago. No errors before, the system was rock solid.

Since then I am getting those messages and BSODs (including self-initiated restart) on a daily basis.

Now, I thought it might be a driver issue rather than a hardware failure (the system was checked by a repair company 4 weeks ago, they told me MB,CPU,RAM and power supply and GPU are all fine, however one of the harddrives was dying so I replaced it and since then the pc was running rock solid.

According to the reliability history I installed two device drivers the day before the first BSOD occured.

1. USB Audio Device. To be exact it was a Blue Yeti Pro Condenser Mic, which wasn't working. So I uninstalled the driver within the device manager, however I fear there might be some traces left.

2. WPD FileSystem Volume Driver, I don't know what that is, but I could imagine this happened when I plugged in an old USB stick of mine.

As you might be able to tell I am rather clueless about what's going on and I appreciate your help!

You've done well in describing the problem and that will help us in figuring this out.
There is only 1 memory dump in the uploaded attachments. If you're using a disk cleaner (such a CCleaner), please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Your BIOS dates from 2010. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

C: drive only has about 10% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

All the BSOD's mentioned in the WER section of MSINFO32 blame your video drivers.
A lot of these errors won't generate actual Blue Screens or memory dumps if the video driver is able to recover from the crash on it's own.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I will make sure to update the SSD firmware and the drivers you mentioned.

For now I believe I fixed it. I haven't had any issues playing Crysis 3 for the last 5 hours. No "Display Driver stopped working" messages or BSODs.

I know the Memory Dump and the reliability history was blaming my GPU, but for some reason I didn't believe that... I mean, I could be in luck and play for a few hours before the BSOD or the recovery message would pop up.

I decided to ran a few tests and copied Crysis 3 from my SATA HDD to my SSD, the result was faster loading times (of course) and no BSODs. I ran a few diagnostics for the SATA HDD and was told everything would be fine. Well as I ran out of space I decided to replace it with a new SATA HDD. The result is, no BSODs no freezing and all my games run in full hd flawlessly.

I don't know what's going on with the HDD and I don't know why the diagnostic tools and windows itself didn't notice that the HDD is dying but well, as I see it, replacing the HDD fixed my issue.

I will continue to test the system for a few more days and if everything works out fine I will mark this thread as solved.

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes the diagnostics just don't find the problem.
So at times the only true test is replacing the part with another part that is known to be good.
