Brand new install of Windows 8 on a new SSD. Seems solid for the most part, but every once in a while I get a blue screen. Seems to be pretty random too. Like I went to open a comic book file, and it crashed.

Possible causes:
  • CPU/MB/RAM incompatibility (update BIOS)
  • Overclocking (reset BIOS to default)
  • PSU malfunction or insufficient power
  • CPU malfunction
  • Motherboard malfunction

If BIOS is updated and at defaults, there's not much that can be done at the forums, as the problem is more related to the hardware rather than software.

As Vadikan states, this is usually a hardware error. But occasionally they can be caused by lower level drivers that act like hardware.

So, first please try these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Then....

You only have 49 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

It looks like you've got 6 or 7 hard drives (I may not have counted right) - what's the make/model/wattage and age of your power supply?

This device doesn't have drivers installed:
Evo USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C86&MI_01\7&2CECA5C2&0&0001 The drivers for this device are not installed.
It's most likely an HTC Android USB storage device. Please either install the drivers or remove the device from the system.

Your Western Digital software drivers date from 2008 and are known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems. Please uninstall the software and see if that stops the BSOD's

I have seen occasional problems with the Asus Smart Doctor software - but none recently. You may want to try uninstalling it to see if that helps.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Well I tried doing some of the things you posted, hell I couldn't even figure out what was using the

wdcsam64.sys driver, and I unplugged the USB drive. I ended up rolling my entire windows install back to the day I installed it, which was only a few days ago.

I have 2 SSDs, 3 normal HDDs, and 1 USB. 700 watt Powersupply, about 2 years old.

Honestly, it hasn't crashed again yet, and I only installed the drivers of stuff I thought I would use from Asus, so I hope that fixes some of it. Ill be sure to bump this thread if it comes back.

wdcsam64.sys is used in the software that's installed when you get a USB hard drive and follow the instructions when you first plug it in. It may be a remnant - left over from a previous install, or it may be from another piece of software. Regardless, since you're stable at this point, let's ignore it for now.

I'm not a Power Supply expert, but that's an awful lot of equipment for a 2 year old PSU. Unfortunately the only way I know to test them is to remove several of them and see if that stops the BSOD's. Since the system is stable at this point, it's not something that I'd suggest right now either.

Run the hardware diagnostics anyway - they just may point to a problem that's not real noticeable yet. Here's the link again: Hardware Diagnostics

Good luck!
