Hi i joined as a member about 2 minutes ago. And I hope someone can help me. my newish asus laptop is always crashing with a system service exception. the last time i had a pc was 3 years ago and it was BSOD all the time so i sold it for 1/2 price less than a year after. i swore i would never buy a pc again and switched to apple. however i was impressed by the look of windows 8 metro and have to say i like it. i bought laptop off ebay and within 2 days it was crashing and does it v.frequently now that i dont want my laptop. can anybody help to ascertain whether it is faulty hardware or software? i know nothing about dump files, where to find them or how to upload them to the site. i feel like throwing my laptop out the window and deserting windows forever. ii thought i was buying a windows 8 laptop but the guy who sold it to me had upgraded it from windows 7 to windows 8 so i cannot do a fresh restore to factory settings since i will lose windows 8... stupid me i should have just gone to pcworld and paid a bit extra

No problem with your post - it's just that there's not a lot of us who do this. I've been babysitting my 10 day old grandson - so I haven't had much time to be online over the last couple of days.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis: http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

It doesn't matter that it says Win7 - it works on Win8 also.

While waiting for a reply, please run Driver Verifier according to these directions: Driver Verifier Settings

What USB devices do you have connected to your computer?

What antivirus are you using?

I'd suggest not running Driver Verifier at this time. It may become necessary later on, but we can live without it for now.

The uploaded reports are not complete. Please rerun the collection app again and let it run for at least 15 minutes (or until the app itself tells you that it's done). Then zip that up and upload it with your next post.

I'm wondering about hardware issues here (from the raw stack text). Please run these free diagnostics:
Seatools for Windows: SeaTools for Windows | Seagate
Kaspersky antivirus scans
MemTest86+ for the USB key: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Please uninstall the Asus AICharger app. It's known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

I would strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with the free program Yumi ( YUMI - Multiboot USB Creator (Windows) | USB Pen Drive Linux ) so that you'll be able to mount .ISO's to a flash drive and run them as if they were bootable CD/DVD's.

NEW ZIP file and info

hi Usasma

i think this new dump is complete. if not please inform me what is missing. i ran seagate diagnostics and passed every test. as for memory test i used windows 8 built in software and passed all tests. i have no yet run antivirus but will do so and will also remove the app you said and look at out of date drivers. just wondering: i found some out of date drivers but am asked to remove windows 7 drivers before updating to windows 8 drivers. the guy i bought laptop off had windows 7 restore function, so obviously upgraded to windows 8. now he has upgraded how do i remove windows 7 drivers? anyway will hold on til you have analysed but will run antivirus and remove the app. thanks for your time and efforts.

Please use the memory test that I suggested. I have seen problems with the built in Windows memory test and cannot recommend it's use. An alternative is to run Prime95 inside Windows (using the blend test) - while not as accurate, it is much more stressful on the RAM ( Prime95 )

Your system is not in bad shape for one that's been upgraded to Win8. Don't worry about removing the drivers at this point. I'll provide detailed instructions on how to remove the drivers if needed. Later on in this post I'll give the instructions for the AICharger removal - as that must be removed in order to rule it out (it's been known to cause BSOD's in the past).

You only have 699 MB of free RAM. Please add more RAM to the system (if it's capable of handling it). While waiting to add more RAM, please trim any unneeded startup items (use the Startup tab in the details view of Task Manager) and only run one program at a time.

You only have 58 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

How to safely remove AiCharger.sys (Asus Charger Driver):
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc:
Win7 - Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
Win8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
3) Test the System Repair disc to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of AiCharger.sys that are starting (or any other Asus Charger Driver entries) (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of AiCharger.sys (or any other Asus Charger Driver entries) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of AiCharger.sys or any other Asus Charger Driver entries are disabled.
7) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the AiCharger.sys driver to AiCharger.BAD (search the hard drive for it if it's not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers).

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the Command Prompt option to rename AiCharger.BAD to AiCharger.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\AiCharger.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\AiCharger.sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

i am a bit confused about what to do

hi Usasma and others

1. u are asking me to perform a memtest86+ test. but when i go to the site i am confused which package to download or run. that is why i chose the built in windows 8 test. could someone please advise me here.

2. when it comes to updating drivers i click on the hyperlinks and i am taken to lenovo site and asus, but i cannot find drivers. i am probably making a basic mistake.
could somebody please provide a trusted hyperlink that takes me directly to the drivers. i am able to locate drivers using a google search but am not sure whether these are the ones i need or the sites can be trusted

there are further steps you have advised but until i can follow the first steps i do not wish to do more.

i hope i do not seem too idiotic, but i am out of my depth here. sorry

plus i do not want to add any more RAM yet because i do not know if i can trust my laptop.

Skip the other memory test for now. It's too much work for too little benefit right now. If it becomes necessary later on, then we'll go through it step-by-step.

Feel free to ask questions about anything. That's how I got started online years ago.

If you don't want to add more RAM at this time, then follow the other instructions (trim/disable unneeded startup items and run only 1 program at a time).

Please follow these instructions from my previous post. Don't worry about the other drivers just yet.
Once all the instructions are done, then post back if you get any further BSOD's.

Code:
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\AiCharger.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\AiCharger.sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

Hi. I have trimmed my start up items and also used Windows update to update from Microsoft. The next step u asked me to take was to remove asuscharger driver. I would love to do this as you ask but I do not have an optical drive. Do I really need to create a back up drive? Can't I just create a restore point on windows 8 and then remove according to your instructions?

The problem here is that, should it stop you from booting, you'll need a device to boot from and one that'll let you get into the repair modes that are needed to repair this.

I'd suggest you read the documentation for this free program: YUMI - Multiboot USB Creator (Windows) | USB Pen Drive Linux

Then get someone to make an ISO of the repair disk, and use that (along with Yumi) as your boot device.

I'd not remove the AI Charger driver without a method of being able to recover.
