BSOD - ntkrnlmp.exe to blame?

Hi,
my PC has developed a severe case of BSOD over the last couple of days - hopefully someone can help! The last change I remember making before this started to happen was auto-updating a driver for my xbox 360 controller. I've tried antivirus and antimalware programs but from research this seems to be some kind of driver issue. I've attached a copy of the sf diagnostic tool output and would greatly appreciate any help!

Cheers.

Just a quick update - I took out a stick of RAM and ran memtest86 overnight, no errors after 10 passes so hopefully that slot and RAM are good. Out of interest, if my other (Open) slot is faulty, could it still be causing crashes despite not being in use?

Cheers.

Depends on the fault - test that good stick in the other (Open) slot. Run it for 3 passes.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.
Please note that there a whole bunch of outdated storage drivers in the memory dumps. This is not unusual, but is due to the manufacturer trying to save money by using just one image for all it's OS installs (a practice that I abhor - and has proven problematic when HP did it with processor drivers from both AMD and Intel). The suggestion is to update as many as you can - and then hope that you've found the right one(s). I'd consider that updating of the Intel storage drivers (Intel Rapid Storage Technology - RST) and the Intel Management Engine (ME) MUST be done - as they are the most common drivers used by OEM's

Out of 26 memory dumps there were 11 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

The wireless USB controller driver version before yours used a driver named xusb21.sys - and it was known to cause BSOD's
Yours uses a driver named xusb22.sys - and is not known for BSOD's. But, if you'd like to test it (as it seems to coincide with an update for it) - please uninstall the software for it and then physically remove the device from your system. Then test to see if the BSOD's have stopped.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hokay.. I've uninstalled the 360 pad software and that seems to have improved stability somewhat. Ran memtest overnight with the other DIMM and got a 'pass complete, no errors' message but the detailed list seemed to show 65,000+ errors in test 5; no red error text though - any thoughts?

I've been running in safe mode with no problems whatsoever, which seems at least a little encouraging that this could be driver related! As for removing old drivers, I'm at a loss, I've used the built in update command in device manager to check all my devices but I see nothing in there related to RAID or SATA drivers (My hard drives are up to date with the latest firmware) As far as I know, I don't use RAID for my HDs anyway?

One last thing, I tried to use Seatools in DOS and it wouldn't detect any drives - something about no connections detected.

Any thoughts? I know it's a bit all over the place, let me know if I should clarify!

Cheers.

Also out of interest how does PC refresh / reset work with partitions? I have windows installed on the C: partition but all my important data is on other partitions / drives. Could I reset and then reinstall drivers?

Please run Prime95 on the memory (Instructions here: Prime95 )
I'm uncertain of what you mean about errors in MemTest, but not showing in RED - but it sounds like a memory issue to me.

I don't recommend using the update drivers function in Device Manager when you're experiencing problems. Often these drivers aren't the most current, and Microsoft doesn't guarantee any of the 3rd party drivers (it just provides the server space for them). When having problems I suggest digging around for the latest version available (usually from the device manufacturer's website).

Start by updating these drivers (this is my best guess at what's involved):

Usually if SeaTools doesn't see a hard drive in DOS, it's because of the AHCI setting in the BIOS. I'd expect that the same setting would be present in the UEFI. Due to the implementation of UEFI and SecureBoot, it's more difficult to run DOS based utilities on OEM Windows 8 systems. As such we usually run Windows utilities if at all possible - and only muscle our way into DOS based utilities to verify issues that the Windows tests found (such as hard drive or memory problems). Just FYI - the old workaround was to switch the ACHI mode to the normal/SATA mode and run the test from there - then we'd have to remember

Refresh leaves your data alone - but it will get rid of things associated with your account (such as apps from the Windows store). It's helpful, but a PITA because you'll have to reinstall some stuff.

Reset will ask if you want to remove your files or wipe the drive. I don't know if it's smart enough to know that you told Windows to put the Library folders on another drive (if that's the case for you). Haven't tried it at work either.

I'd be interested in hearing the results if you try it - but be sure to backup your data first (just in case!).
