BSOD (page fault in nonpaged area)

I've been having this issue ever since installing win8 1-2 months ago and haven't been able to isolate the cause so here I am. The crash usually occurs while gaming (WoW, GR:O, etc) though it has happened occasionally while simply surfing the web or watching movies. I initially had 4 gigs of ram but at some point my system decided that it didn't like one of them and refuses to boot with it installed so I'm at 3 now. I've run every combination of those 3 sticks using just 1 or 2 at a time but it still persists.

Usually the page fault in nonpaged area is the only message I recieved though once or twice it did add ks.sys to the end of it, not sure if that's relevant or not. The crashes seem entirely random, sometimes I'll go several hours without one and other times they happen 2-3 times within 15 min. This is really getting frustrating and I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone could provide.

50 memory dumps in the last 3 weeks! That's a whole lot!

Your BIOS dates from 2009. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Only 62 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have the 2005 version of ASACPI.sys installed. This is known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems. Please update to the latest version available from the Asus website.
It's located in the Utilities section here for 64 bit Win7: ASUS - M2A-VM
It's the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit"
Please be sure to install it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

If the hardware diagnostics don't reveal anything, then please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Thank you again for the quick reply! I've updated the ASACPI and Realtek drivers, though all the rest seemed to be the most recent versions. As for the BIOS there was one other beta version when I downloaded this one that I tried however, when I installed that was when the 4th ram stick I mentioned in the first post stopped working. After that I used the most recent non-beta version which is what I have at the moment.

Thank you again for your help, I will see if the issue persists with just the driver updates and if so run through all the diagnostics and get back to you. If the problem does indeed seem to be fixed (I'll give it a day or two to be sure) I'll post back as well.

One thing to consider is that that Asus doesn't support the M2A-VM motherboard with Win8.
As such, it may not be fully compatible with Win8.
Unfortunately Asus doesn't give a reason why they aren't supporting Win8 in this board.

That thought had occurred to me and I had pretty much written it off as the reason until posting here. I was actually standing in Fry's debating between win7 and win8 and playing the role of the uninformed consumer perfectly, opted for the shiny new one. Unfortunately I don't have the means of upgrading my pc as of right now so just keeping my fingers crossed that it's a software issue. On a better note though, I did get an hour or two in earlier to play and it went crash free. Not nearly enough time to say that it's fixed but enough to be optimistic at least.

Well it ran just fine most of the day but finally got another page fault bsod, was really starting to think it was fixed as it hasn't run that long continuously since I installed win8, oh well. Downloaded memtest and going to let that run over night if I can get it to boot. First try it simply booted straight into windows even though I had removable/floppy set as first priority(was using the usb drive version). I'm sure I have a blank cd lying around somewhere if that doesn't end up working. Anyway, just in case I reran the SF diagnostic with the new crash dump. Will post back tomorrow with memtest results.

Looks a bit like a low-level (hardware/BIOS issue) problem - but still is having a BSOD that's amenable to using Driver Verifier.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these directions: Driver Verifier Settings

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

creating a system restore disc then running driver verifier. I the most up to date driver suite I could find on the creative site and the auto update offered nothing new. I did find on their forums that the sound card I'm using seems to have reached it's "expiration date" and they are no longer supporting it. There was a custom driver pack made for that purpose but it seems to support every soundblaster x-fi card but the one I'm using. So as far as the p17.sys file goes, should I simply uninstall the card completely for now?

edit: ran memtest last night, 9 passes and no errors. Also ran driver verifier with the recommended settings, rebooted and had no problems for 3-4 hours then had 2 back to back "crashes" just a few minutes ago. Problem is the system simply rebooted, no bsod and so didn't get a log for it. At this point would it be safe to say that the culprit is outdated sound card/drivers and picking up an inexpensive, up to date card would solve this or would that be a premature assessment?

I'm not a great fan of Creative drivers and would suggest removing the software for this device and then physically removing the device from the system. This way, once it's gone, you'll be able to see if it was the cause of the BSOD's.

Please run the data collection app again and upload it with your next post. There's many different reasons for memory dumps not appearing - and sometimes there are traces of those reasons in the reports.

Also, check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.dmp If you find it and it's dated from the time that the Driver Verifier memory dumps occurred - please zip it up and upload it to a free file-hosting service (it's too big to upload here). Then post a link to it here for us to download it.

MEMORY.rar that's to the memory.dmp and here is the new diagnostic zip:

I didn't notice anything significant in the latest dump(s).

Once you've removed the Creative Audigy software and then physically removed the card from the system - should the BSOD's continue, please run all of the hardware diagnostics from here: Hardware Diagnostics
