Hi Guys

I need help. As computers go I am 7 out of 10 a far as knowledge goes so not completely dumb. However, in the last week my computer as far as I am aware has not done any updating apart fro Kaspersky updates. I run windows 8 and for some reason I have had this message Critical process Died and my desktop has completely changed. When windows tries to boot it takes for ever, then once logged in I get 'preparing windows' When I eventually get to a screen it says I am logged in only with a temporary profile and anything I add will be lost when I turn it of. My desktop is totally different?? Its totally useless as it is, I have tried to boot with boot disk nothing happens, I have tried to update windows updates, many drivers all are up to date, I thus think its not HD corruption as I can see files, I can surf etc..once its up and running. so not hardware is it? Any ideas what I can try?

If you want log files please explain what you need and how and I will try and get them to you asap.

Again thanks in advance for any help

For starters:
At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).
Be sure that you run the malware scans in case something has slipped by your Kaspersky.

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (even though you're not reporting BSOD's): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html
