Rebooted from a bugcheck?

Hi

I am running Windows 8 Pro on an Apple MacBook Pro Mid 2012. Of late, when I close the lid to put it to sleep, it doesn't go to sleep and on opening the lid, it just shuts down. After rebooting, I was digging through the Event Viewer for Windows/System and found this.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa800761c6b0, 0xfffff803304187f0, 0xfffffa8011aa7870). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 042813-33109-01.

What do I do?

Ensure that all the MacBook Software Updates are installed - that's where you get a lot of the driver updates for using Windows on a Mac.

I'm just guessing here, but it seems that the issue is a power transition (such as going into/out of Sleep) with your network device(s). As such, I'd first suggest updating your network card drivers (both wired and wireless).

But there's a number of older drivers on the system that may not be compatible with Win8. Please check each of the following and ensure that they are fully updated:

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi

Well, the problem was Connectify. I upgraded it from v3.7 to v5 and this started happening. I have since downgraded to v3.7.

Connectify 5 installed an additional driver called cnnctfy3.sys which made it go boom.

I am checking your driver links. The first one with regards to Xilinx, I have uninstalled the program long ago but still the sys file remains. Can I remove it?

I'm glad that you figured out that it was Connectify, thanks for letting us know!

The drivers on the Bootcamp disk are not the latest - you must use the Apple Software Update for the latest Bootcamp drivers. If you've updated from the Apple Software Updates - then that's the latest Bootcamp drivers that you can get.

The XiLinx driver can be safely removed this way:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc:
Win7 - Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
Win8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
3) Test the System Repair disc to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of xpc4drvr.sys that are starting (or any other XiLinx entries) (DO NOT DELETE - only disabled by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of xpc4drvr.sys (or any other XiLinx entries) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of xpc4drvr.sys or any other XiLinx entries are disabled.
7) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the xpc4drvr.sys driver to xpc4drvr.BAD

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the Command Prompt option to rename xpc4drvr.BAD to xpc4drvr.sys
2) Boot from the System Repair disc and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!
