If you still need help with this, please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (even though this isn't a BSOD crash): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

I haven't received the BSOD recently, it could have been due to my monitor which is replaced. If it should re-surface then I will re-surface the question, although it was very rare. In the meantime with the assumption that the BSOD problem is taken care of, I have a constant problem that is more frequent with 'backgroundtaskhost.exe'. I really want to solve this, this problem just occurred when writing this message, what is it and why does it keep crashing ?

Also, please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx

There was no dump file to be found on my computer. I did get an Event view here is the link to download. SF Diagnostics tool fired out a series of text files, I have them saved, if needed.

I'll need the reports that the SF Diagnostics Tool made, just zip them up and upload them.
Many, many .NET 4.0.x errors in the stuff you uploaded - and they all seem related to the backgroundhost process. Try this tool: Download .NET Framework Repair Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center

I'm not real good with .NET problems, but I have a decent success rate when I use my "scorched earth" technique.

1) I remove all .NET stuff in order - from v4.x down to v1.x
2) Then I reinstall it in order - from v 1.x up to v4.x

Uncertain of how to do this with Win8 (as v4 is built in). I'd suggest posting in the General forums or researching it on Google/Bing.

Good luck!

Here is SF Diagnostics Tool logs. I hope it helps. I applied the .NET Framework Repair Tool, unfortunately it didn't solve the 'backgroundhost' crash issue :( I hope the logs give some more information if the 'backgroundhost' crash is strictly a .NET Framework error, which is a good thing. If it is only a .NET Framework problem, I'll re-install and hope the error goes away.

Your BIOS dates from 2007. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:
1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.
Due to the age of your BIOS, I also have to wonder about the ability of your system to handle the SSD without compatibility issues rearing their ugly head.

There is an unknown USB device that has problems - and Windows has stopped it's drivers from loading because of this. Please let us know what USB devices you have installed on your system (to include those plugged into header's on the mobo (such as recent HP wifi adapters)>

Driver for MagicISO dates from 2009 - please uninstall this program.

PCouffin.sys dates from 2006 - please uninstall the older CD/DVD program that this driver belongs to (I have no idea which program it is).

SuperAntiSpyware drivers date from 2010 - please uninstall this program.

secdrv.sys dates from 2006. The one on my Win8 system dates from 2012. It is a core Windows driver, so it's updated by visiting Windows Update. Please update it.

Soluto dates from 2011. Please uninstall this program

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause problems on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help
FWIW - your sptd.sys driver dates from 2010 - so it needs uninstalling also (follow the instructions above)

taphss.sys dates from 2009. It's a component of HotSpotShield. It is known to cause issues on Windows systems - please uninstall it.

**************************************************************
With all these problems, I'd suggest:
- updating the BIOS
- use this procedure to backup, wipe, and reinstall Windows for testing purposes: Canned Speeches
- it's important not to install any of the older programs until you know that the system is stable. And installing older programs is asking for trouble on a system with a BIOS this old and running Win8.

You may want to try it first with a platter based hard drive - to help rule out the SSD. You don't have to activate it as it'll run without activation for 30 days. If the problem doesn't occur on the platter based drive after a few days, then do the same procedure on the SSD to see if the problem recurs there

My motherboard manufacturer does not make BIOS for this motherboard anymore besides I'm very concerned with upgrading my motherboard BIOS because it can cause unrecoverable changes to the computer.

Win8 is tightly tied to the BIOS - way more than any previous Windows OS. If the BIOS isn't current enough to handle Win8, you may be facing issues similar to what I faced with my older Lenovo laptop (BIOS from 2008). I fussed with it for weeks, even getting help while I was at Microsoft for the MVP Summit - and didn't have any success. Finally I gave up and am getting a new laptop as soon as I can get the money together for it.

If the SSD were causing problems, it wouldn't be working.
Not true - glitches in the firmware and the storage controllers can make problems that are very, very difficult to isolate - and yet the drive still works. More significant is that the problems were there before you installed the SSD.

Which was the problem - mouse or keyboard? What did you do to fix it?

Windows must be updated, please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates.

Removing programs: The programs that I suggested that you remove are older and may not be compatible with Win8. As such I request that you remove them. If you use the programs, feel free to reinstall the latest, Win8 compatible version AFTER the system has become stable.

Daemon Tools is known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems. If you choose to leave it installed, that's up to you.
HotSpotShield is known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems. If you choose to leave it installed, that's up to you.

These are just my suggestions and are based on my experience - do whatever you wish.

The error is not hardware related. I have the latest firmware for my SSD drive, and my BIOS is up to date. If I didn't mention, I was going to mention that I doubt it's hardware related. Anyone else have any other solution besides programs that I need to remove ?

The above two sentences made by Usasma are highly valuable and correct. They should be considered before further evaluating the machine for any problems.

With those gone (along with sptd.sys as described, too), I wouldn't be surprised if the system stabilizes completely in all aspects. If not, you'd be one step closer.

Wise move, even just for troubleshooting purposes.

How are things going now?

I recommend PowerIso as a substitute for Daemon Tools. It won't ever crash the system.

This is frustrating, finding a needle in a haystack to what is the cause of this.

Edit: If anyone else is experiencing this problem, I was informed to wait for a Windows8 Service Pack, hopefully it is fixed :(
