HP Ultrabook restarting instead of resuming, multiple BSOD

I have a new laptop, an HP Envy 4 Ultrabook. It has a 30GB SSD and a 500GB HDD. Within 2 weeks of receiving the laptop, the hard drive failed. I sent it back to HP, they replaced the HDD, and sent it back to be a week and a half later.

The laptop seems to be working fine, except for one error. When I close the laptop and put it to sleep, sometimes opening it does NOT make it resume from sleep. Sometimes it hangs on a back screen and I have to hold the power button. Sometimes it reboots. Sometimes it reboots and gives me a crash dump. And SOMETIMES it wakes up fine. It seems to wake up correctly if it has been asleep for not very long. I disabled hibernate in case that was the problem, but it has not helped. I have searched this issue but I can find no solution for myself. I have updated the BIOS and all the drivers that I can find. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm concerned about the hard drive, so this should be first.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thanks for taking time to respond.

The hard drives (Samsung SSD and Hitachi HDD) pass their tests (both SMART and other tests). I updated the WinCap driver, but the other one appears to be a norton one. I uninstalled all Norton products from my system, and have little desire to keep it there. Can you recommend to me how I could go about removing it?

I'm also having another odd symptom these days. Sometimes, when I open the laptop, it will not wake, but when I hit the power button, wakes right up. Again, only sometimes! Usually it acts normal when the laptop has not been asleep very long (an hour or so.)

Do you have other Norton products still installed? Check in Control Panel...Programs and Features...Uninstall a program. In most newer systems there's a bunch of different Norton programs installed. Uninstall all of them and see if that gets rid of it.

If not, then use this:
Norton Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free anti-virus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus If using Windows 8, enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall instead.
- un-install the Norton from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of Norton using this free tool: http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN
- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free anti-virus (if using Win8, enable Windows Defender), then check to ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- perform a full system scan to ensure that no malware has snuck onto your system while the anti-virus was malfunctioning.
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
NOTE: NEVER run more than 1 anti-virus, firewall, Internet Security/Security Center application at the same time.

The sleep function thing appears to be related to the hybrid sleep (where it first sleeps, then after a while it goes into hibernation.
To turn this off, do the following:
- press Win and X to access the Power User menu
- press O to access the Power Options screen
- click on "Change plan settings" for your Preferred power plan
- click on "Change advanced power settings" in the next Window
- expand the "Sleep" category by clicking on the + sign next to it
NOTE: I don't have the hybrid sleep option, so the rest is from descriptions by others.
- click on the "Allow hybrid sleep" option and turn it off for both battery and plugged-in options.
- save by clicking OK

Another NOTE: it appears that I don't have Hybrid Sleep available because I've installed Hyper-V (from this post: Hybernate hybrid sleep and fast startup doesn't work in windows 8 - Microsoft Community )
