Hello,
I am desperate to know what is happening with my set up.

I just built my desktop computer and i'm having some audio distortion and small freeze spikes. Eventually my system gets a BSOD.

Gráfica Asus GTX650 Ti 1GB (90YV03B2-M0NA00)
Fonte Halfmman UltraPower FX2 550W 120mm Preta (ULT-LS 550)1
Gskill Ripjaws X DDR3-1600MHz 2x2GB (F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL)1
Motherboard Asus P8B75-M LX Plus (90-MIBK10-G0EAY0KZ)1
Samsung DVD-RW 24x Sata Preto Bulk (SH-224BB/BEBE)1
Disco Western Digital Blue 500GB SATA III 16MB (WD5000AAKX)1
Intel Core i5-3450 3100 "Ivy Bridge"

I first installed genuine bought windows 7 and installed all the drivers from the asus website and nvidia website. At this point with windows 7 I experienced these random spikes even when just browsing/listening to music. BSOD Happened when playing Team Fortress 2. I searched for some fixes around and nothing worked. Even did some re-installations of the O

Right now, I installed Windows 8 ( genuine too! I have access to free genuine copies by microsoft) and these random spikes seem have just happen once when browsing/listening to music). It happens when playing Team Fortress 2 and so far got one BSOD but keep getting 1-4second freeze spikes at random. On these BSOD the cause was the ethernet controller and some other stuff which I didn't keep record :|

- I've checked temperatures and everything is around 30-40ºC and cores reach a max of 51ºC.
- My drivers are up to date.
- I know nothing about voltages and have no ideia if they are correct or that it is it that is causing anything.

The graphic card driver was out of date on this specific crash. I updated it already.

I'm sorry about the long text and eventually my english since I'm from Portugal. I hope I can get some help.

Thanks in advance,
Tiago

I found a 1 year old thread that says that 32bit OS fixed the problem... Before I try it.. anyone has any clue on what I should do ?

Installed Win8 32bit already... still getting the random spikes.

Is it possible that my Power supply is a bit bad since it only delivers 15A on +12V ? May these freeze spikes exist because i bought on eof the cheapest and powerfull power supply ?

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

From what I've seen so far, you have video issues. I suspect hardware, but let's start with software first (because it's easier).
Please:
- download a fresh set of the latest, Win8 compatible drivers from World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies | NVIDIA
- uninstall the current video drivers from your system through Control Panel...Programs and Features...Uninstall a program
- install the freshly downloaded video drivers using this guide: nVidia Video Cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums (this will help to rule out any network stuff that may be involved with the video card)

If the BSOD's continue, please try these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
Please let us know the results of the diagnostics.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

i will try it later today. i suspect it is a problem related with the power supply because i have been searching around and clearly my 12v rail doesnt have a good current supply and it is the worst cheapest component i have. since it is a new computer i can exchange it within this next week

I updated what you tolde me and i still get the freezing spikes. BSOD seem to no longer exist. LatencyMon keeps refering to "power management" and to deactivate "CPU Throttling". I deactivated CPU throttling and Turbo Mode.

I have encontered this:

Some wierd temps are shown up there ? What are those sensors ?

Now it is the HD audio drive that freezed. Should i be using the AC97 connector instead of the HD one ?
Is it possible that I connected something wrong in the motherboard and the computer is having these freezes because of that ?

The Admin events logfile shows errors with svchost.exe holding onto registry keys when you're trying to do something else. IMO it's an indication of either malware or a corrupted OS.

There are many errors referring to
The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance.
Maybe there's a BIOS issue that hasn't been fixed yet? Do your problems happen after a fresh boot - or do they only happen after putting the system to sleep/hibernate?

In short, all this stuff points to either a corrupt OS or a hardware problem.
Since you've tried both Win7 and Win8 - it's most likely that it's a hardware problem.

Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
If that doesn't point anything out, then we'll have to start removing/replacing parts to test.

Every component is brand new.
I have tested ram with memtest86+ for 6h30 and it seems to be ok.
Tested my brothers Power supply wich is 600W and has 40A on 12V rails ( mine is 550W and has 31A on 12V rails) and the problem seemed to take longer to happen in gameplay.
It seems that everytime I run LatencyMon the file that causes the problem seems to change everytime.
I am taking too much time on this and I have a lot of exams this next 2 weeks, I am taking the computer to a repair store since I cannot try any other components on the system because I don't have them available.

Thanks for the help, I will report back.

I am getting desperate here :( I dont know what to do! Everytime something happens it is traced back to a different file :\

Numerous different errors are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

To troubleshoot the problem will take some time, so you'll have to be both patient and methodical about this.
For starters, have you run all the hardware diagnostics that I've suggested? If so, what were the results of each one?
- hard drive
- memory (you've already run MemTest for 6 hours or more, that should be enough)
- malware
- prime95
- furmark
- other video tests
- CPU stress test

Please answer the rest of my questions also.

I note that there are 2 or 3 BIOS versions released since the version on your motherboard. Have you considered updating the BIOS? If so, be careful and follow the directions exactly.

Have you updated the drivers and done the suggestions that I made in my first post? Were you able to get all of them?
Please make a new SF Tool report and attach it to your next post.

My BIOS version is the 0701 02/05/2013 - Isn't it the most recent?

The driver you said to update, I did. The ones in red, right?

-harddrive: I did "quick scan" with the manufacturer tool and did a quick scan with the HD Tune software. Nothing found. I will leave a full scan during the night.
-RAM: Seems to be OK.
-malware: I'm currently running malwarebytes and scanning. I don't have any anti virus since Win8 has Windows Defender, What free anti virus should I get?
prime95: Made the test and everything is fine.
-furmark: Ran for 30hour and temps didnt get up 60º
-other video tests: Memtest passed.
-CPU stress test: "Pass" with the Intel software.

I will be making a new SF Tool report in a moment

Q:"Maybe there's a BIOS issue that hasn't been fixed yet? Do your problems happen after a fresh boot - or do they only happen after putting the system to sleep/hibernate?"
A: It is purely random. I haven't been having any BSOD and just having the freeze/sound distortion problem that happens randomly(sometimes ingame, sometimes browsing). The BSOD I got recently I was runing prime95, LatencyMon and switching tabs a lot. Prime95 has ran for about 2 or 3hours in the afternoon and I played a game and even under that stress nothing happened. Not even a freeze break.

Since the "problem" seems to be tracked to diferent drivers on LatencyMon, may this be a motherboard problem having dificulties "establishing connection" with the diferent components on it? Or a power supply "shortage"?

Run the long test for the hard drive - the short/quick tests aren't very accurate

I prefer Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall for malware protection.

As for the motherboard being at fault - there are no tests that will fully test a motherboard. The motherboard manufacturer's believe it's cheaper to replace problem motherboards than to invest in developing a complex test that may be of questionable value. As such, it takes a lot of troubleshooting to pin the blame on a motherboard. Basically what we do is we rule out everything else - and then we blame the motherboard.

We're both ruling out 3rd party driver and ruling out hardware - and the BIOS is (IMO) one of the most important things to check here. It may not fix it - but if you don't try it, you'll never know.
****************************************
So, I just ran the latest memory dump - and guess what it blames?
Yep! LatencyMonitor (rspLLL32.sys)!

I also found a driver dating from 1996! It's most likely not compatible with Win8. It (giveio.sys) belongs to Speedfan - and it's probably a remnant of an older installation. Please uninstall Speedfan, reboot, and check the C:\Windows\System32\drivers directory to see if it's still there. If it is, please post back for directions to safely remove it.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

This is a dynamic driver used by Windows Defender. It's not normally seen in memory dumps, so we'll have to keep an eye on it.
MpKslb463ecca.sys - this driver hasn't been added to the DRT as of this run. Please search Google/Bing for the driver if additional information is needed.
