What to do when bug checks are not logging?

I am battling a BSOD that occurs after wakeup. I have reason to believe this relates to the hard drive, because no matter what logging/dump option I pick, no dump is created, nor is there any entry in Event Log when the system restarts.

Finally, when I disabled the auto-reboot on crash, I noticed that it sits at 0% (writing to dump) and never goes anywhere, which confirms the fact that it isn't able to log the crash.

The only "official" detail I have is the bug check code DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Any tips on how I can do more analyzing/get more info if the system can't do anything fundamental like logging to the hard drive? I'm at work otherwise I would have posted the info from the sticky, but I was curious if anyone had any ideas for when I got home. I've run windows update and the driver updates a million times, and I've tried to update my drivers from the motherboard manufacturer but it didn't resolve the issue. Might try the hard drive manufacturer's website when I get home.

Here's a link that describes (in part) the dump file generation process: BSOD Crash Dump Generation
It depends on which stage of the boot that the crash occurs.
Does the crash happen in Safe Mode?

Transitions, such as waking from sleep, typically relate to chipset, video, and storage drivers. Depending on the mobo, there are also other drivers involved with the chipset (such as the Intel Management Engine on Intel chipset boards) that are involved.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (even though you don't have any memory dumps): https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cr...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

here are my attached reports. if there are any dumps analyzed, they're old remnants from other crashes or my win7 system (since I upgraded from win). BTW, this issue happened while Win7 was installed as well.

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Just FYI - my Lenovo laptop has a 2008 BIOS and I found that it's just not compatible with Win8. That may be something that you have to consider.

These devices are having problems:
Maxtor 6V300F0 ATA Device IDE\DISKMAXTOR_6V300F0__________________________VA111630\5&36A55C2A&0&1.1.0 This device is disabled.

PCI Input Device PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_7003&SUBSYS_00401102&REV_04\4&30D54F48&0&01F0 The drivers for this device are not installed.
The first one appears to be a disk. Is it deliberately disabled? If so, why?
The second one appears to be a Creative Game Port and it's drivers aren't installed. Please install the latest, Win8 compatible drivers for this device.

This appears to be an upgrade install - and, IMO, you've likely imported the problems that you had with Win7 into the new Win8 installation. I strongly suggest a clean install of Win8 - but have to warn you that it may not install due to the age of your system components.

The WER section of MSINFO32 does not recognize that any BSOD's have happened.

This error seems to say that there are issues between your BIOS and Win8:

The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system.

Access issues with your CD drive. As this usually uses the same controller as the hard drive, this can also be a cause of the problems:

This error suggests that the problem was in a level lower than Windows was able to detect - so the memory dump may not have been collected because of that. That is from these errors:

Frankly, with all these errors, I suspect that the system is not fully compatible with Win8. While it may function for you, I suspect that you will continue to have issues with it.
