Another BSOD Thread...

Jeez, seeing all these in this board really makes me wonder about Windows 8...my problem seems rather random, and I have tried multiple "solutions" without success. Usually, the solutions I try appear to work and not crash my laptop for a day or two, and then randomly crash. Today, it did it two times in a row; I only got so far as to loading my desktop before it had crashed again.

I have a Compaq CQ58 Notebook PC, Windows 8 and 64bit. Any help is very much appreciated.

(Hope I compressed the attached file right.)

BSOD's are actually rather rare - and are even more rare in Win8 (IME). It's just that this is the main place to deal with them - so they're all concentrated here.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Ah, I see! :) Thank you so much for the help, I can't say that enough. The odd thing about those programs is that when I got this laptop, I think they were already on there - at least the CyberLink ones. I uninstalled Daemon and the WinPcap one. WinPcap and Cyberlink were already on this laptop (that I'm sure of) when I got it, and once I Googled and looked up what they was, I see I have no use for it so I uninstalled them properly through Control Panel, if that's all right? The new compressed file is attached. I think I got everything you talked about in your post. Again, thank you so much :) If anything comes back up, I'll come here at once (if my laptop will allow me haha.)

WELL...it happened again, and suffice to say, my mouth literally dropped because I thought I had finally gotten rid of this pesky problem! It happened when I opened my laptop; my laptop was in sleep mode and closed, so it wasn't as if it had heated up. I haven't installed any programs today or yesterday, etc. I was just about to open Google Chrome (literally, my mouse was hovering over the icon for me to click), and then bam; blue screen with that stupid text. The frowny face is actually starting to really make me mad lol. I just want to shout, "YOU AREN'T SORRY AT ALL."

The file I put in my last post is the recent compressed file, and I've made no changed to my laptop since then. Should I make a new one? Any new ideas?

EDIT; It just did it again. I've noticed usually if it does it once, it'll do it again in less than 10-15 minutes. I'm at a loss of what the problem is. I've only just gotten this laptop at Christmas ugh.

There are no new memory dumps in the uploaded files.
Please check in C:\Windows\Minidump for files that start with 022513 or 022613 (maybe 022413 also - but I've already run 2 of those).

If there are no new one's, then please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.dmp If you find it, please check the date on it. If it's later than those that were run previously (in my previous posts), then zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service and post a link to it here.

No sign of a BSOD in MSINFO32 or in the event viewer logs. This could be a hardware problem, so please run these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

There are many, many of these errors:

The WinPcap Packet Driver (NPF) service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
I'd suggest uninstalling the WinPcap software to see if that helps

Okay, new file...and the memory dump file that I found is uploaded at the link at the bottom of this (I hope sendspace is all right.)

I'm puzzled because I did uninstall the WinPcap software...I uninstalled it, and then even restarted my laptop. After I uninstalled that (and the other stuff), I didn't get the BSOD for almost an entire day. It was when I loaded my laptop back up that it happened. The memory dump I found is from this morning, and the BSOD has appeared twice this morning as well though both times I have no clue of what I did differently, aside from browsing the Internet on Google Chrome.

LINK: Download MEMORY.DMP from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Note that the error says that it couldn't find "the file specified". This is probably an incomplete uninstall of the software. If it didn't work, then try reinstalling the latest version of the software - then uninstall it again. If the error keeps up, then we'll check in services.msc to see if we can disable/remove the service from there.

Lot's of video stuff in the raw stack text. That's not necessarily significant, but without other clues it sorta limits us.
Have you run Driver Verifier according to these instructions?: Driver Verifier Settings
If not, please do so now.

If you have run Driver Verifier, then I'd have to assume that there's a hardware problem. Please run these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

WOW, okay, you're brilliant! When I went to install WinPcap again as you suggested, I was given this popup that basically said the program wasn't compatible with my laptop (which is confusing, because I went to the website and the download link said Windows 8, but whatever), and asking whether I would like to proceed. I closed that, and decided to search for WinPcap in my computer to see if perhaps some program did have it somewhere. Something did come up, so I went to the file location and it led back to a software on my laptop - some video downloading software, no clue how it got there (funny how I'm seriously so lost on how some of this stuff was downloaded; eh), but I uninstalled and rebooted so...fingers crossed that perhaps that was it?
