Hi all,
This is my first post here, so greeting to you folks.
Anyway, my problem is that I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my Acer Aspire One netbook 722 with AMD processor.
And I got a BSOD today. I uploaded my dmp file to mediafire 021613-24913-01.dmp
I have no idea how to proceed further, or what could be wrong. I simply used this tool Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files. to view the dmp file and figured it had something to do with ntoskrnl.exe
Please help, this is my primary on-the-go computer and I cant afford it BSOD-ing on me again.

Thanks and regards.

Edit: I am attaching the zipped files here too.

It happened again. I rebooted my laptop, and the first thing I did was open Firefox and started typing a URL, and boom! the computer crashed again.
I tried doing the same thing again. rebooted, opened firefox and typed a URL and another BSOD.
could firefox be causing this? I have not heard of firefox causing any BSODs. but then again, when I rebooted, I instead opened IE10, and it seems to be working fine as I type this.

attaching new dump file.

EDIT: I have run both sfc /scannow and chkdsk in elevated command prompts. both came clean with no errors.

Hi and welcome to the forum. The mini-dumps you have supplied don't seem to be pointing to any driver in particular. Normally I would advise updating or removing out-of-date drivers on your system but in your case I can't find any.

The one thing I did notice is your BIOS seems to be out-of-date, your BIOS version is v1.06 (2011) and the latest on your manufacturers website is v1.11. Please be aware if you decide to update follow all manufacturers instructions otherwise you might find your system in-operable:

Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Netbook, Chromebook / Aspire One / AO722 (click on BIOS)

If this does not help I recommend doing a memory and hard-drive diagnostic check in-case this is a hardware problem. Please follow the articles on this site for doing this:

Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Thank you for your response. The drivers should be up-to-date, as I downloaded them from Acer's website just weeks ago, when I installed Windows 8. I will run the diagnostics and report back.
As for the BIOS update, I am very hesitant to do so because of the numerous horror stories I have heard about systems getting bricked. but if the diagnostics don't report anything, then perhaps I will go ahead and do the bios update.

I ran the memtest86+ and the hd utility. both reported no problems. so i upgraded the BIOS to version 1.11 as you recommended.
And then i rebooted the machine and ran firefox and used it for a bit. i am happy to say so far it has not BSOD-ed! :) let's see if this holds up/ how long it holds up for.
Thank you so far. Will keep you posted.

I spoke too soon. it just crashed on me three times in succession.
the first when I was on firefox and ebay. the second time I literally just clicked the firefox icon to start after reboot.
the third time when I open IE 10! I am honestly stumped at this point. I have upgraded the BIOS and ran all the checks above, and yet this happens.
Any ideas/ suggestions?
thanks once again.

These dumps all point to win32k crashing during the closing of a window or the destruction of data contained within a window (and considering IE10 is accelerated, this isn't totally odd for IE anymore either):

In looking at your video driver, it looks like you've installed the AMD catalyst suite from September of last year:

Something running on the machine is causing issues here - as previously recommended, I'd recommend making sure your BIOS is the latest version, but also I would recommend upgrading to the latest version of the ATI suite for your video card/chipset directly from AMD/ATI. If, after updating your drivers and the BIOS (assuming there's a BIOS update), the problem continues, you'll need to configure your system for a *complete* memory dump - mini or kernel dumps may not be enough if a driver update doesn't fix it. However, given this is video work, the best place to start is the video driver and the system BIOS.

Thank you for your more in-depth response. As I mentioned earlier, I already updated the BIOS to v1.11 which is the latest from Acers website. As for the AMD graphics drivers, I think there has not been a version released after the already installed version. In fact, I cannot seem to find the driver for Windows 8 elsewhere, except on Acer's driver downloads page. Perhaps, Acer thinks the driver works for Windows 8, but ATI itself is not so sure. :( If you could find the driver for it elsewhere please post here.
AMD Catalyst Here it asks you to contact your vendor, and the vendor's driver is the one i have.

The weird thing is that the laptop was working fine for a couple of weeks and then it suddenly started BSOD-ing. Also on the forum, it seems i am not the only one with this problem.
http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/20519-bsod-opening-different-browsers.html this person posted something eerily similar. And the person here http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/20412-random-windows-8-bsods-started-today.html has my same model netbook, and their crashes also started recently, although their problem had to do with different sets of drivers.

Thank you for that link. It says cant recognize your OS or graphics card. Which is extremely strange.

At this point I am ready to dump this Windows 8 crap, and revert back to the tried and tested Windows 7, with all software I use working, and there seems to be no problem with drivers, hardware etc. Not once did have a BSOD with Windows 7 on this laptop.

So unless there seems to be another solution to this, I can't afford to waste my time on 'fixing' brand new Windows 8 installs. Especially since the weekend is over. So I will wait till you folks say you have no idea either, and then in that case revert back to Windows 7.

That download did not work for me, and the from the looks of it, it did not work for you either. It will bother me to no end to worry about when my computer is going to crash when I have to work on a document. So I think I will indeed revert back to Windows 7, perhaps for another 6 months or so, when all these creases have been ironed out. I am getting increasingly frustrated with my situation, which is of no good to anybody.
If in the meanwhile you guys come up with a permanent solution, I will be frequently visiting this thread and this forum. So far, thanks for the help.
vipers, you may want to go to,
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/auto/amddriverdownloader.exe

download the file, after running the downloader.exe it should download a file named
"13-1_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql" which is 150mb, install it, driver date should be 12/19/2012 and version 9.12.0.0. I havent get any bsod since I installed it.

If you've got a system with a BIOS that old, sticking with Windows 7 might be a better bet until you can get Windows 8-certified hardware. Driver nightmares aren't Windows' fault (especially AMD drivers), but it doesn't make the experience any better. Good luck :).

I updated the BIOS to v1.11 from Acer's site which was released on 13th Nov 2012, which in BIOS terms is pretty recent. Also previews of Windows 8 were already out by then, and I am pretty sure RTM was also out by then. Anyway, if this BIOS is also not compatible with windows 8, then why did it work flawlessly for 2-3 weeks before crashing so many times?

shouldnt the problems have been more apparent during the first few days themselves?

I have enabled "Driver Verifier" by following these instructions, Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable - Windows 7 Support Forums

after doing this the bsod error message has changed, I did upload the minidump file to Instant Online Crash Analysis and now the issue points to a Microsoft driver called vwifibus.sys which is located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\vwifibus.sys

Any ideas?

If that's the case, figuring out which update(s) cause the issue would be helpful. If we knew which update triggered the problem, we could get some idea as to which file or files were involved.

That would indeed be helpful. except i have no idea how to go about figuring out which updates caused the trouble. in any case, i hope we can get to the bottom of this.
