I recently installed Windows 8 Pro and came across some BSODs that weren't happening before I installed Win8.

I play Lord of the Rings Online, and when closing LotRO (only AFTER the game has closed. closing the process or standard log-out both cause it) I get BSODs. My first thought was to throw up Drive Verifier, which I did. PC didn't boot because DV showed Daemon Tools was giving me crap. I unstalled that and the BSOD issue seemed fine after several restarts.

Then it came back. I looked around online and people recommended running Memtest86, Prime95, Furmark, etc to try and rule out specific things. I ran Memtest86 for half a day with no issues, so I turned on Drive Verifier again and ran the others (5 or 6 hours for Prime95, a burn in test for Furmark)and came across no issues and no crashes.

Drive Verifier did pick up some new info from Lotro in the form of finger-pointing nsiproxy.sys and raspptp.sys. Again, it ONLY crashes once I close the program completely. The game runs smooth as silk while playing, including multiple times zoning into new areas or entering and exiting full screen/windowed modes.

I would love any help for this problem. Thanks.

I dunno about Pandora - but I listen to it all day long at work, and have never had a problem with it.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
29 May 2012 - The frequency of BSOD's with SSD's seems to have been decreasing over the last several months. It may be approaching time to re-evaluate my stand on their suitability for use in production systems.
10 Nov 2012 - I'm seeing an upswing in SSD errors - but most appear due to older storage controller drivers. I strongly suggest NOT using storage controller drivers that don't date from 2012 (if none are available, don't connect an SSD to that controller)
05 Jan 2013 - very interesting post about difficulties with the Marvell controllers even when not connected to the SSD drives: https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cr...-pc-reboots-when-waking-sleep.html#post169956

No drivers installed for this device. Please install them.
USB camera USB\VID_045E&PID_00F5&MI_00\7&2F0EBFC7&0&0000 The drivers for this device are not installed.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I strongly suspect that this hold true for Win8 systems also.
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?
Corsair Enthusiast TX750 (750W) and it's a little over a year old (when I built my PC).
We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
Interesting snippet about SSDs. I do have the lastest firmware for mine. I had absolutely no issues with anything before upgrading to Win8 with my SSD. Without something specifically pointing to the SSD I'd rather knock off some of the other issues. My crashes after logging out of Lord of the Rings Online are not 100% replicable, so it would be a long wait to see if it even made a difference.
No drivers installed for this device. Please install them. USB camera USB\VID_045E&PID_00F5&MI_00\7&2F0EBFC7&0&0000 The drivers for this device are not installed.
Totally forgot about my webcam drivers (Microsoft LifeCam). *goes and fixes that*
Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I strongly suspect that this hold true for Win8 systems also.
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [DEL] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/DEL] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012 New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it). Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help
Daemon Tools was uninstalled after the BSOD that pointed to it. Just ran that utility linked and it says that no SPTD was detected. Tackling the drivers listed as we speak. What's your opinion on the BSOD that pointed to nsiproxy.sys and raspptp.sys? I can't make heads or tales of those..

I updated my BIOS, got rid of the LifeCam since it isn't compatible with Win8, and got all the most recent (and applicable) Intel and Asus drivers I could get my hands on. Gonna turn on Drive Verifier again and see if I experience any more BSODs. Still interested in anybody's opinions of nsiproxy.sys and raspptp.sys and their part in this mess.

Also, for some reason the SF tool is creating a users/name/desktop folder on my D: drive instead of using my actual desktop on C:.. any idea why?

There are 3 things that cause BSOD's in Windows systems:
- 3rd party (non-Windows) drivers (by far the most common)
- hardware issues
- Windows drivers (the least common)

We work at ruling out the 3rd party drivers first. It's a combination of the reports, the info the we've stored in the Driver Reference Table (DRT) and our own experience (I've been doing BSOD analysis for users for the last 5 or 6 years).
After that we work on hardware with a lot of diagnostics. Then we work on Windows - but there just aren't that many tools for fixing that (Windows Update is your best friend when it comes to BSOD's).

Because of this, when we get BSOD's that blame Windows drivers - our first assumption is that there was a 3rd party driver that caused the Windows driver to crash. That's what I think of the nsiproxy.sys and raspptp.sys errors. BTW - the crashes that I posted don't have those drivers named. The one's that I posted relate to cdd.dll (canonical display driver DLL) - so I'm starting to wonder about your video at this point (either drivers or hardware).

You ran these hardware tests:
Memtest86 - tests your RAM, but isn't very stressful
Prime95 - stresses your RAM/CPU Cache/Memory controller (depends on which tests you use)
Furmark - stresses your video card

Also, when working on low-level issues (which includes hardware issues) - we tend to see random BSOD error codes and random causes blamed. Once we rule out the 3rd party drivers (to include the low-level one's), then we can concentrate on the hardware issues.

You had 4 STOP 0x50 error codes (Page Fault in a NonPaged Area). These are most often due to 3rd party drivers and we may be able to force Driver Verifier to give up the name of the faulting driver (as it did with Daemon Tools). But be careful as it's not always that simple. Sometimes the actual cause of the problem has already done it's dirty work and has exited - so there's no trace of it when the BSOD occurs. That's why interpreting BSOD issues is so difficult.

Your one Verifier Enabled memory dump blamed Daemon Tools. You removed it, so it's now out of the equation. We still need to find the other components that are causing this (and remember that I suspect video due to the cdd.dll). Please run Driver Verifier using these instructions (they isolate the 3rd party drivers): Driver Verifier Settings

Also, for some reason the SF tool is creating a users/name/desktop folder on my D: drive instead of using my actual desktop on C:.. any idea why
You're going to have to ask Brink or Captain Jack (the author) about that. I have no idea how they are compiled/constructed.

Please zip up and upload any subsequent memory dumps. They're in C:\Windows\Minidump

Finally, there's no sign that BSOD's are "fixed". Mostly I give it a week before I figure that it may be fixed - and after 2 weeks I'm pretty sure that it's fixed. But that's just a SWAG (Scientific Wild A**ed Guess), so YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)

Good luck!

020913-12078-01.dmp (the second in the list you analyzed) when loaded in Nirsoft BlueScreenView points to raspptp.sys specifically as the causing driver, and highlights nsiproxy.sys and ntoskrnl.exe [Caused by Address: raspptp.sys+fee5cad8]

That particular dump was the only one I managed to force with Drive Verifier ON when loading out of Lord of the Rings (no crashes during the game, only after successfully making it to desktop do I get a BSOD). The other dumps were without Drive Verifier on.

I don't use BlueScreenView because of these issues. I believe that Nir Sofer has mentioned issues with the app when using it with 64 bit systems (but can't recall as it's been a while since I read his documentation). ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel (core) of the Operating System. If it was the cause, you'd be having many more problems other than the occasional BSOD.

The Windows Debugger (actually I use kd.exe in the application that performs the analysis) shows that cdd.dll is to blame.
But please remember that Windows drivers blamed in the crash are usually not the cause - so we really don't know what's causing this at this point.
The 020913-12078-01.dmp file is shown in my results above - and it points to cdd.dll

Now, just to add to the confusion a bit - if Driver Verifier was running when this crash occurred, then it may be that 3rd party drivers weren't involved and that the error is either hardware or Windows. But don't be too hasty in coming to this conclusion as there are many different forces operating here and this may just be a coincidence (or an example of the offending driver exiting after causing it's damage.)

Recently, and particularly in Win8, I'm seeing a trend towards STOP 0x50 errors associated with low-level type errors. Unfortunately (for me) the focus is on fixing systems rather than determining the true cause of the problems - so it's rare that we get definitive answers about what's causing the problems.

Just FYI - low-level type errors include (but are not limited to):
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS problems (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- other low-level driver problems (such as corruptions of the low-level driver)
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Hardware Tests:
That being said, you can try these free diagnostics (feel free to skip those that you've already run since this problem started): Hardware Diagnostics Further tests after that involve removing unneeded parts and swapping out hardware with known good hardware in order to test essential components ( Hardware Stripdown Troubleshooting _

Windows Repairs:
You can also try "chkdsk /r /f" (without the quotes) from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
You can also try "sfc.exe /scannow" (without the quotes) from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
and you can try to "Refresh" Windows 8 to see if that fixes any problems ( How to restore, refresh, or reset your PC - Microsoft Windows Help )
Further options include a "Reset" of Windows (see previous link), or a data backup/hard drive wipe/reinstall of Windows ( Canned Speeches )

An interesting side note (well, interesting to me at least :0) is the named Process that each error occurred in.

Now the name of the process isn't usually significant, but in cases where it occurs in most of the BSOD's one has to wonder if it is involved.

In this case lotroclient.ex is listed in all 4 of the memory dumps (leaving out the Driver Verifier Enabled memory dump).
You mentioned that you'd closed out of the game before the BSOD occurred - so I have to wonder about problems with the client that's installed on your computer. Does the client still run after you've quit the game? What happens if you close the client without exiting from the game?

A google search ( https://www.google.com/search?q=lot...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a ) shows many, many problems with this client - so we may have to consider that it may be a cause of this problem.

I've always had good results using Nirsoft BSV troubleshooting issues I've had in the past. I'm not as experienced as you are obviously, but can usually glean some useful information out of what it's pointing to as the problem (most information online about the cdd.dll and ntoskrnl.exe in BSODs suggests that they are pointed to simply because they were the things crashed. Cdd.dll particularly being the last dll loaded. I'm inclined to think that the other suggestions are more likely).

Looking online, raspptp.sys is for P2P. When LotRO is download they use a P2P service to download the client (Pando Media Booster). It stays on for an unspecified number of days seeding your LotRO install to people downloading the client. I uninstalled that last night just in case it was contributing. I may be out in left field, but it seems plausible to me that for whatever reason when the LotRO client is unloading that it could get borked and cause an issue with the Pando Media Booster, which is a P2P program.
