Hi,

I'm trying to install Windows 8 64 bit (am currently using 32 bit) and I keep running into a BSOD starting right after the installation. I don't have anything other than the minidump (see below) because I reimaged the computer with my 32 bit installation and grabbed the minidump from the 64 bit off an image I made before I put 32 bit back on. I was still hoping that someone could point me in the right direction to solve this when I go back to the 64 bit installation. When it crashes, the screen looks like a TV which has lost its signal and then freezes then blue screens. From research on the net and from the way it looks, it seems like a bad video driver, but the first thing I did after installation was to go to AMD and download their driver utility and update the driver. I've literally spent days on this and turn to you for a little advice. I don't know how to read the mini-dumps although I managed to get it into a text file using instructions from the net.

The BSOD starts right after the installation but the mini-dump includes programs I installed afterwards. The BSOD was so sporadic I went ahead and installed my programs but they kept on coming so I went back to 32 bit. I'd like to get the 64 bit installation working. The Debuglog.txt is attached.

Any ideas? And, thanks in advance for your help and patience.

You can't upgrade 32bit windows 8 to 64bit, you can only upgrade the same version eg: windows 7 64bit to windows 8 64bit... not sure whether that is the problem you're having but just to let you know.

Hi,
I'm not trying to update 32 to 64. I imaged my 32 bit installation and then reformatted with a 64 bit version which is when I started having problems. When I couldn't get the 64 bit to work (too many blue screens - see the dump file), I went back to the 32 bit from the image I made. The help I need is with the dump file attached to my original post which was made after I did a clean install of the 64 bit OS. I'd like to use 64 bit. BTW, everything works using the 32 bit version, so it's not a hardware problem. It has to be driver related.
Thanks

From the txt you provided I can only see a few drivers out of date you might want to update:

elby CloneDVD: h ttp://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=ElbyCDIO.sys
VirtualCloneCD Driver: http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=VClone.sys
Filter Driver for Identification of Microsoft Hardware Wireless Mouse and Keyboard: http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=dc3d.sys
Macrovision SECURITY Driver: Driver Reference Table - secdrv.SYS (might want to delete or un-install this)
Framebuffer Display Driver: Driver Reference Table - TSDDD.dll (unknown date)

The only thing I'm not understanding is if you're installing windows 8 64bit from scratch how there can be out of date drivers on your system unless you're installing them after installation.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. The Elby driver was installed after Windows 64. I'll check on the others. With regards to the Execute Disable Bit, what is that and is it a show stopper for installing Windows 64 on my Sony Vaio.

Thanks

The issue is your motherboard does not support Execute Disable Bit

Data Execution Prevention is enabled. Does that mean that Execute Disable Bit is functioning?
