DPC_Watchdog_Violation

Hi,

I've been running Windows 8 Pro fine for the last two weeks however as of yesterday afternoon I started to get the BSOD DPC_Watchdog_Violation occur.

I haven't, as far as I'm aware, loaded any new programs or drivers onto the computer during the last few days and after reading a few posts have tried updating my device drivers using Driver Manager but its telling me they are all up to date.

The BSOD seems to occur randomly sometimes within minutes and at other times there can be an hour or two between. I am not sure what is setting it off.

Any help on this matter is appreciated thanks.

hi Bagavan, thanks for your reply. I have done as requested and rechecked the drivers however they are all up to date. I also ran the sfc /scannow command and it repaired some corrupt files. I have attached the log as requested.

Hmmmmm F8 doesn't get me into safe mode anymore. Any suggestions??? Every restart ends in BSOD attempts to fix the problem and fails. Cheers

I had this exact same problem last week, randomly I keep getting DPC_Watchdog_Violation, BSOD and windows trying to reboot and hangs and all I could do is to restore it from backup.

Also, each time I restart the PC, the BIOS took a long time to post.

Luckily, I did have a couple of Images made, one is the Original Image after installation of Windows 8 activated, updated with no application software installed, one is with all the application installed. So what I did is to restore the Original Image just to make sure that there is no drivers conflict between Windows and the application software, also I ran sfc /scannow and all is good. Guess what ? It happened again, this is telling me there is something wrong with my hardware so I start checking my SSD drive using chkdsk C: /f and again could not find anything wrong with it, unplugged all the extra hardware ie. external Hard drives, sound board etc... just left with a single SSD to boot from and again it happened.

Since I have 2 PC's and both have SSD's as the boot drives and the other is running well and good so I swapped the SSD's and now this PC is running like a charm and the other PC is having DPC_Watchdog_Violation.

Even chkdsk did not find anything wrong with the SSD, it turns out to be the SSD that causes the problem all along and I guess that chkdsk is not really working good with SSD drive,

One of your post above stating that you ran sfc /scannow and the program did find some errors and fixed but you still have the problem. This leads me to believe that you have the same problem I had that is some weak spots in you HD/SSD making your system files corrupted.

BTW, before you get the message and BSOD, was your system running a little bit sluggish ? because that what happened with mine.

@Alllu
You are welcome.
there is also another site talking about this issue:

[SOLVED] BSOD: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION in Windows 8

And the problem has been solved. It all points to SSD. And they resolved it by updating the firmware for the SSD.

I am not sure if you are using SSD as your boot drive, if you are you might want to read this thread
