Hello,

my machine is bluescreening about every 15 - 20 minutes. I am pretty certain its a driver issue as I have been running in safe mode for a couple of days now but I have no idea how to interpret the crashdumps. Whocrash keeps mentioning ntoskrnl.exe.

Anyway I have posted the PCHF tool zip file and the WhoCrash report for good measure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[FONT=Arial, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS, Helvetica, sans-serif]edit: since creating these reports I have re-installed windows 8 out of desperation and the problems have just gotten worse. The PC is crashing every 5 minutes now! [/FONT]

Please update your network drivers and check for memory errors using memtest.

Also run driver verifier as that will tell us which driver is at fault.

The previous dump blames memory corruption.. It is a sign of faulty memory but anyways we cant conclude rite now.

Please run memtest for a few hours and check for errors

You've had 50 crashes since 16 Nov.
Most of them are indicating RAM, a couple may be caused by graphics card RAM, the page file may be involved.

Can you fill in your system specs?
You can use this app to find them: Speccy Free System information Utility
Then enter them in the 'My System Specs' drop box at the lower left of any of your posts.

Can you download CPUZ and post a snip of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs.
For posting the information , enter 'Snipping tool' in the Start button > Search box, hit enter. Select the area you want to post and save to a convenient place.

Go to your BIOS and tell us what the CPU, RAM and the CPU integrated memory controller voltages are.

Most likely cause in the system RAM, so test it first.
Run memtest86+ for 7 full passes, with all RAM cards installed.
Best to run overnight with 16GB of RAM it will take several hours.
If you get any errors you can stop the test.

Holy crap, I ran memtest overnight and it showed up something like 50300 errors. Do you think the RAM is faulty?! I dont understand because I have only recently brought this RAM. (Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Blu). I will perform all the requested tests tonight when I get home from work. Meanwhile verifier is running. BTW how do you view the results of verifier?

Thanks a lot for your time guys!

Can you tell us what error message(memtest) it displayed?

It appears ram is the culprit.

Driver verifier check the drivers for bugs. If any bug is found it will result in BSOD and you are requested to upload those dumps as that will enable to us to analyse if any driver is causing BSOD.

Try running memtest with a single ram stick.

Repeat the test for other ram sticks

Hi Bagavan,

Im not sure where to look for the memtest results, I just clocked that the errors bit had a huge number next to it this morning. If you tell me where and what to look for I will run it again on individual sticks and let you know the results.

Post the CPUZ tabs requested above and I can suggest some BIOS adjustments.
With 16GB RAM you probably just need some fine tuning.

The memtest86+ errors details are not that important, just having the errors tells us where to start, which is adjusting the settings in BIOS.
If the adjustments don't help, and they usually do, then you can test the RAM cards individually to see if there is a bad one.

Since you're having RAM errors there is no need to do any further testing until the RAM is stable. It will cause problems in all the other tests.

This will also let others see the information and possible help with this thread or help someone else with a similar issue.
The 'Speccy' link was for you to use, so you can finish filling out your "System Specs".
Can you complete them now?

You can Run memtest86+ again, one card at a time, for 7 full passes each test, if you want. Or we can make a couple BIOS adjustments now and you can run memtest86+ on all four cards to check if the settings helped.

Let me know what you want to do.

Your CPUZ tabs.

You still haven't given the BIOS voltage information requested in Post #3.
Go to your BIOS and tell us what the CPU, RAM and the CPU integrated memory controller voltages are.
These are the voltage that you may need to change, depending on what they are set at now.
When you give the information requested, then I can give you the adjustments.

Did you overclock this yourself?
I see several issues just from your CPUZ tabs.
If you are not familiar with your BIOS, know how to find the information requested, download your manual.
If you have any questions on how to find the voltage settings, ask.
VCCIO is the IMC (CPU Integrated Memory Controller) voltage.

Hi Dave,

sorry for being dense re the screenshots, I'll post any further info as a screenshot.

Right so I have run memtest over 7 times on all 4 sticks individually and in their original slots and only one of them showed any errors. I then tested the stick with errors on another slot and it came up with a single error (interestingly on one of the same tests it had previously failed). I am currently running on the two sticks and slots that came up clean and, touch wood, my machine has not blue screened... yet. I will leave the machine running HeavyLoad overnight and will let you know if it survives. I am also still running verifier.

I have had a look at my voltages and they are:
DRAM - 1.506v
CPU - 1.120v Offset Mode
VCCIO - Auto

I had a tinker with overclocking my 2600K as I had heard it was relativly simple to achieve. I used this guide:
P67 Sandy Bridge Overclocking Guide For Beginners
My system isnt overclocked at the moment though and Im pretty sure I didn't adjust the RAM.

My Nvidia driver is the latest: 306.97

So do you think it is just a faulty stick or is this settings related? Can you see something in my configuration that is causing instability?

Thanks a lot of your help.

Simon

Return your bios to stock speeds and setting and retest.

Should show if it's a hardware problem. Although looking at some of the screenies looks like an OC issue.

But at least it will rule faulty HW in or out.

    .
Just to confirm, did you run memtest86+ and not another RAM test from inside Windows 8?
If you had one RAM card fail memtest86+, it's bad and needs to be replaced, settings adjustment won't help.

As mentioned, leave all BIOS settings at default until your system is stable.

Post the crash report files.
If you have Driver Verifier enabled, these crashes should point to the driver(s) that are causing problems. That is what Driver Verifier is suppose to do, stress your drivers to force a crash so we can find out which one(s) are causing the instability.

There is a problem if your CPU is running at 4.4GHz and the Vcore is 0.848v.

I did run memtest86+ booted from a usb stick during start up. One stick failed a couple of times, twice in its original slot and once in an adjacent slot where the ram had passed. But it failed the same test (number 6) in the different slots which made me think of something I read Smarteyeball say in this thread:

One thing that could be mentioned is that if you repeatedly fail a particular test ie Test 5 / Test 8 - it's not always a sign of bad RAM/mobo, but could actually be indicative of too high a mhz, incorrect timings / voltage settings etc.

This theory might correlate with your idea of my voltages being totally incorrect due to my fumblings. I mean the two sticks that are in there now both passed memtest in their respective slots. I will reset my BIOS to default and see what happens. Please find my dump files attached. I have now turned off verifier.

I am an enthusiastic novice when it comes to overclocking. I made these adjustments using a guide months ago and only now is it going wrong. Are the effects of my modifications cumulative? I have tried to restore my Bios to a more default setting, not sure if I have managed it so I am posting screenshots of CPU-Z while running HeavyLoad. I would greatly appreciate any direction you could give me with regards to actually overclocking my system stably. I do a lot of video editing and wanted something that could really crunch through encodes...

I'll let you know if the PC survives without a BSoD now I have (hopefully) removed my dodgy overclock settings.

In your motherboard manual page 3-1:
If the system becomes unstable after changing any BIOS setting, load the default settings to ensure system compatibility and stability. Select the Load Optimized Defaults item under the Exit menu. See section 3.9 Exit Menu for details.
This will return everything as it was originally.
You can set your RAM to XPM mode in BIOS.
Update all your drivers from the motherboard support site, same page as the manual.

All your last crashes are the same:
Code:
STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS
READ_ADDRESS: GetPointerFromAddress: unable to read from fffff800109c2168
GetUlongFromAddress: unable to read from fffff800109c21f8
Unable to get PFN database address fffff800109c2170
 fffff98039f00000
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP
SYMBOL_NAME: Ntfs!memcpy+a0
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: AV_VRF_Ntfs!memcpy
These are all from RAM problems, with everything set to 'Optimized Defaults' this should be corrected.
Continue running only two RAM cards until we can verify the system is stable.
When overclocking, stop code 0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency unstable.

Your OC link is a good guide.
The RAM changes he is recommending are not for your RAM. He is underclocking the RAM to ensure stability, if you use those settings it may cause instability. They are close to your XMP settings, when you are OC'ing the CPU your RAM is set at max XMP settings, which may be unstable.

Overclocking is an art and an ongoing settings adjusting procedure. There are many things you can do to get it stable, trying for a 4.5GHz OC on your first attempt is an ambitious undertaking, as you've found out. Each system, with it's varying components (each components has it's own degree of OC ability) can and do react differently to the same settings changes.

We work on system crashes in this forum, once your system is stable you can post in another forum for specific help.
Ask any question you have, and I'll help you.
A full walk through is better done in an OC'ing forum.
