OS crashes every few months

Every few months one of PCs at my home is really unstable. That PC is a 'spare' machine, so that wasn't a big problem. But it's really irritable because I have to set off power supply for a couple of minutes and hope it'll work stable again for next few months or so.

Could somebody check my 2 newest minidumps and analyze it? Yesterday I installed the drivers for gpu. Sadly, today saw BSOD again.

OS: Windows 8, but earlier on Windows 7 also was the same problem.
Problem: various BSOD every few months.

My machine:
- mobo: Asus P5Q Deluxe (bios version: 2301);
- CPU: E8500 (never overlocked);
- GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4650 (sapphire version with heatpipes, GPU temperature from gpu-z: ~37-38C, I don't play any games);
- RAM: 2x2GB, corsair dominator PC2-8500 (tested also with some Kingston 2x2GB sticks);
- power supply: 550W (bequiet darkpower pro);
- antivirus: Avast;

The first signs of instability: firefox crashes, then later (sometimes) Visual Studio crashes.
This time the crashes started when PC was running more than a day doing some calculations. As always, Firefox crashed first.

BSODs on Windows 8:
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
and one more BSOD, but I didn't write it down.

Earlier on Windows 7:
error codes:
1A - memory_management
3B - system_service_exception
D2,
24,
1 - apc_index_mismatch

Errors 0x1 & 0x3b often showed when Visual Studio was running.

Each time I see a BSOD on Win8 the text with it is all blurry and hard to read. Is it normal?

What I tried (with Win7 as OS):
- change RAM sticks, change slots, put only one stick. The effect is a lottery: PC is working good for some time (1 day or a couple of months) and then crashes;
- apply the new thermal paste on CPU;
- install system on a different hard drive, change sata cables and ports, change supply cables;

Small observation: some time ago I had Win7 and Ubuntu at one hard drive. While I couldn't boot Win7 at all, Ubuntu was starting normally, working for a small amount of time and then crashing.

Run memtest86 AND memtest from hcidesign.com for extended periods. Use driver verifier on the non-microsoft drivers without the low resource simulation.

Ehh.. I'm not exactly happy with the present situation. What happened:
- about year ago a ran memtest86+ (forgot mention about it) and it not detected any errors so now I tried running Driver Verifier first.
- then another BSOD came:
DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Windows was constantly trying fix itself with no effect.
I didn't have any restore points, so I used refresh option that removes all programs and leaves only the files. Maybe it was silly move, but I didn't know what another action I should take.

I don't have a much time for install all of the programs on that PC, so for now will install only drivers, libraries and frameworks and check if the Driver Verifier find something. If not, the next step will be run overnight memtest86.

Added 2 minidumps (that's all I have).

Update: After I installed SoundMax, PC is instantly rebooting when this app detects the speakers and I try 'add' them. The reboot is abrupt, the screen darkens and PC behave as if there was a loss of power (no BSOD). But after some rebooting it works fine.

DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION (c4)
A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.

ADIHdAud.sys soundmax is old and suspect by way of the minidumps (2009). Do you really need it for sound? Can you run verifier without soundmax?

I always used Sonic Focus options in SoundMax. I need to have an equalizer, not in app like Winamp or foobar, but that controls all sounds in the system. All of the most recent versions of this driver (that I found) doesn't support my sound card anymore.

I uninstalled SoundMax. That's a pity and really uncomfortable step for me.

Ran verifier. System booted normally without any additional messages.

Now I'll check RAM with memtest.
