Hi I desperately need help! :/
The last time I used my pc I installed a couple of games, uninstalled pokki cos it seemed too resource hungry, used jet drive to defrag the whole hd in deepest mode. I tried to install Asia thermal reader manually cos it wasn't installing from the disc that came with my saber tooth 990fx mobo after installing the win 8 updated version. Think it said cant install on this version of windows although it did install when I'd just upgraded to win 8(? Weird!). I think windows had installed a few updates when it shut down or maybe the restart before. All I know is I'd left jet drive doing its thing (which claims to be win 8 compatible) and I'd told it to shut down when finished. I came back to my pc later and the screen was on the start screen waiting for me to click a button so it wud open the login section. This suggests it restarted instead of shutting down or restarted cos it crashed during defragging?
I clicked so I cud log in and it was unresponsive. Cudnt press Ctrl-alt-del or anything so had to reset. It rebooted and went to windows icon and spinny balls started coming up but then paused and pc wud boot no further.
I put win disc in n chose to repair hd but it said it cudnt repair(!). I opened up command prompt n I'd disk check which found nothing, I did a full disk check (rechecking for bad sectors, etc and repairing offline) n it found nothing still. I did sfc /scannow n it said some files were corrupted n it had repaired them. I rebooted n now it doesn't even get to win icon just stays at black screen with text cursor on (not blinking cursor). I just don't know what to do!!!....
I've seen some ideas like turning off dynamic ticks (my sea gate 3tb hd won't update firmware to latest and I'm not sure it's most reliable as I've had to repair it a couple of times so far- cause being hd or win 8?, hd light sometimes stays on for ages n I get freezes for a time intermittently).
Other ideas were turning off fast startup but haven't tried either of these ideas yet. Also booting in safe mode but don't know how to do that when pc doesn't boot very far into windows. Tried to revert to restore point from win disc but needs to be done from hd with win on! ( a dumb idea considering I can't boot to win on hd!).
Win 7 used to come up with screen saying boot safe mode, normal, repair or restore point and I'd try a few n it wud get going again quickly n just work! Win 8 is pants at helping users get up n running again quickly if it relies on pc being able to get so far into windows system before u can choose all these options!
Please help, I hope all this makes sense but if not please query things n ill try to explain better
Thank you everyone in advance,
Steve
