I have Windows 8 pro + WMC 64-Bit installed on a laptop .. I have noticed sometimes when I right-click a file it just hangs with the circle spinning forever - I have to terminate explorer.exe and restart it - when i do all icons are blank - after a couple of attempts all shortcuts and favourites normally in left panel are gone

rebooting fixes it for a while - I dunno why but ive a sneaky feeling SLEEP plays a part, (due to past experiences too in other windows os's) ive noticed it really seems too happen if the laptop has been too sleep, ive noticed in past that problems seem to occur when one uses sleep or hibernate, its like the system becomes unstable? - i could be wrong, just I use sleep cos the power button is gone.

anyone else getting anything like this?

thanks

Hello there!

Most of the times the Explorer crashes due a bad or corrupt Context Menu the best way to troubleshoot is to download the ShellExView is an excellent tool to view and manage all installed shell extensions. The rule is to disable non-Microsoft context menu handlers *one-by-one* and verify if the problem is solved. If disabling one does not solve the problem, undo the disabled item and disable the next non-Microsoft handler. Do the same until the problem is solved and finally identify the culprit. Scroll right to see the Company Name column in ShellExView. Run a SFC Scannow to make sure all the System files are intact.

thanks I done just that and seems to resolved it - i think it was TERACOPY context menu item... not 100% sure, I just disabled them all (non-Microsoft ones in 'context menu' only) apart from WinRAR and Sandboxie and its worked fine since then...touch-wood

yes that program is great...something I will keep in my arsenal

cheers
