Hi guys,

I upgraded Vista Business 32bit to Windows Pro 64bit via the windows download (using a friend's 64bit machine to get the right download version) and get the following BSOD when cold starting the PC:

An unexpected I/O error has occurred
File:\windows\system 32\winload.exe
Error Code: 0xc00000e9

The problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed when its in use or is failing
Properly connect any removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem.

Pressing enter or F8 only refreshes the page.

Windows starts once I switch the pc of and on again from the front panel.
Funnily enough it doesn't happen when I restart the PC or when the PC was shut down and powered off (from the wall socket).

PC:
HP XW4600
Core 2 Quad Q6600
4Gb ram
128GB SSD

Actions taken so far with no success:
Autorepair x3
Updated Bios to 1.34
Updated drivers from HP website, except: LSI megaraid and Microcode CPU Bios (as it looked a bit complex)
Removed all USB (except keyboard) and firewire devices including internal
Changed from an SSD to a HDD and reinstalled
Ran fdisk on both drives and Samsung Magician on the SSD and detected no errors.
Put back SSD and reinstalled both from the original ISO disc and a new download

Vista Business worked fine previously and recently before that XP, so I'm not sure what the problem is...

So at this stage help would be appreciated! See attached zip file.

Thanks

Any help out there?

Any help?

Updated my graphics card and ran verifier.exe for 48hrs only thing it picked up was a violation for DB3g.sys which is the driver for my diamondback 3G mouse, new driver was no help so just used another mouse.

I've attached the latest BSOD dump files if someone can review.

Thanks for any help...

The last BSOD was indeed DB3g.sys
Wait for new BSODs and post them. Keep verifier on for a couple of days.

still BSOD on warm shutdown

Thanks for the reply.

Yep another BSOD on warm shut down with same error.

This morning no BSOD on cold shutdown (power off).

Will keep verifier on but this does slow my PC down, SF Diagnostic can take 15mins to complete

Posted the dump from yesterday.

Thanks

There are no new minidumps.
Consider turning the verification off on Microsoft drivers.

Still there!

Still getting the BSOD at warm start

I turned off verification on the Microsoft drivers and that's increased system speed, thanks.

Tried the following but still getting the same BSOD:
Reinstalling Win8 on my HDD via USB and swapped the sata ports around
Swapped back the SSD and tried resetting the CMOS
Ran Sfc /scannow
Still been running verifier but haven't seen any other BSOD's
Installed latest sata driver
Nothing else brought up by verifier
Couldn't install CPU microcode didn't work

If the BSOD occurs before windows starts will there be any minidumps?

Attached latest diagnostic file

Any help much appreciated, thanks

Are you not able to start, or is it random?

Warm start is "fast boot" related? Disable it, but you might still have hibernate problems.

Thanks for the reply

The BSOD occurs after post once the window icon displays, it then says "preparing automatic repair" and goes to BSOD. I can get the PC to start after the BSOD by powering it down and up again via the front panel power button.

The BSOD only occurs after I've shutdown the pc (I've been calling this a warm start - if that's right?).
It doesn't occur after a restart or after the PC has been shutdown and switched off via the mains plug (a cold start?)

So no, not random.

When you say fast boot do you mean "quick boot" within the BIOS or "fast startup" within Win 8 power options?

I've had a look on the eightforums tutorial for fast startup and its sounds fishily familiar.

Thanks

Window Debugger BSOD mini dump

Fast startup is enabled so I'll have a look after this post (I don't use hibernate that much).

Went to your link and was able to regedit the keyboard debugger and got a BSOD, hopefully the dump is now all in the attached file and will be useful to you.

Thanks

So disable fast startup. Does that change anything? Later we'll look at hibernate.

Ok,

Disabled fast startup but didn't get what I bargained for...

Now PC BSOD's and won't start anytime, even after pressing the off button or switching off at the plug.

I'll have a look tomorrow in the morning but thinking of using the Win8 install disc to self repair or safemode to restore.
